TacomaGeneral discussion forum for the 2005 and later Toyota Tacoma.
This is a discussion thread titled "smashed window in the night", within the Tacoma forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
it's always great when you wake up, look outside, and the first thing you see is the sparkle of shattered glass all over the parking lot... Some drunk ******* broke into my truck and took my wallet (which if found in an alley missing cash and debit card), but thing that pisses me off the most is the window i now have to replace, and the mess it made. There is glass absolutely everywhere, and with my trd mesh seats, I'm thinking it's going to be impossible to remove all of the glass. I'm going to try and vacuum it up as best as i can so i can drive it to the repair shop, but i don't want to push the shards further into the seat. anyone have any experience/ suggestions for getting all of this glass out? any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
Sorry to hear about this. Which window was broken? The windshield should be laminated so while there will be shards, much of the glass will adhere to the inner plastic sheet. All other glass should be tempered, and will crumble into small pieces, most of which are not very sharp-edged. Vacuum up all you possibly can, and you will still probably find an occasional piece for months to come.
Sorry to ask, but was the wallet visible? If not, maybe the thief knew you kept it in there -- clearly not a good decision, even if it was not usually kept there. Hope you got your debit card canceled, and that your insurance will cover the damages.
See, I'm tellin' you all...we need that James Bond car alarm. Break a window and the car explodes! Even the dumbest thieves would learn real fast...well, they wouldn't exist anymore so maybe they wouldn't...LOL. We'd never have any more breakins that's for sure!
I've had past cars broken into twice. That's why I won't live in a city anymore!

thanks all for the sympathy and suggestions guys! i've always considered our town to be a very safe place, so this just goes to show it can happen anywhere. i'm getting the problem fixed, no thanks to insurance, but thanking my lucky stars that it wasn't worse. I had a lot of stuff in the truck, but none of it was stolen. it looks like they even found my spare key (the back sliding window lock broke a while ago so i've used that many times to get in and get my spare), so if they had really wanted to, i suppose they could have driven off. a tough lesson learned, but all in all just some broken glass. thanks again for the ideas
Since he found your spare key, will you be getting the locks re-keyed?
You never did say which window was broken -- or what it will cost to replace.
I know when the dealership broke my rear slider, it cost a small fortune...
