OK, thanks everyone for all of the responses. I have not used the defrost so much lately (none this week because I haven't needed it) and added a little air to the tires. From 29 up to 42. Will see how that works. Just didn't know if my 14 was normal or if something was wrong with the truck. I can accept it, just didn't quite expect it. I have a flawless 1996 chevy impala supersport with the v8 350 corvette motor in it. It gets 18 in the city. Don't remember highway, as she doesn't get out much. My fault, but I guessed wrong that a v6 tacoma would get at least what a 96 impala ss with a 350 would get. I still love the truck, in fact, I'm taking it to Germany next year, so I'm over it.

You should also consider using a 0W-20 or 5W-20 oil if you aren't already using it.
0W-20 and 5W-20 oils are not approved by Toyota for use in the 1GR-FE V6. Only 5W-30 is approved according to Tacoma owners manuals, including the 2008 Tacoma manual.
I need help! I have a 2007 tacoma double cab 4wd v6, 18,000 miles. I am getting about 14mpg and I baby it. haven't beat it up or anything. bought it a month or so ago. Trying to figure out why I am getting 14 mpg.
You never really specified in this thread if this was all city driving, a combo or hiway driving. I'm assuming mostly city, and if so then 14~15 mpg isn't out of the ordinary in winter conditions as others have said.
Anyone know why mine is so bad... 05 tacoma trd off-road. 6-speed, 3" lift, 33" tires, K&N intake system, and dual exhaust. I always shift around 2500, and let it warm up for about 5 minutes, and a couple times a tank I have to get on it just to have fun!
Curious how over full would cause an increase in fuel consumption.
I figured I'd chime in... when the oil is at it's normal level in the oil pan, with the engine running, the oil level is below the spinning crankshaft. When there's too much oil, it builds up in the pan, and now the crankshaft has to spin through the oil, which actually takes some force at the speed it spins at.
zmmh21, Hey no one else came in on your question...Your specific problem in my opinion would be your 3" lift and 33" tires...your gear ratio has changed and you're higher in the air.....just my 2 cents but I'd bet a $1 on it....good luck, CSM-H
PS: almost missed the "dual" exhaust...TRUE duals??? As in no cross over would also cause a lack of power (read torque) and could be a factor.
