Hello all. I have a 2009 tacoma.4.0- V6.I just did its first oil change 4 days ago.(3,000 miles)The oil filler cap had a creamy color residue on the inside.I first thought it might be due to it being a new engine and ignored it.I changed the oil and filter with mobil 1 syn. 5W-30.After running it for the past couple days I rechecked the level and also for the color under the filler cap.The level was fine. But the creamy color was back under the cap. There can't be water in the oil can there!!!??I just spent a large amount of money to repair my old ford f-150 because of a blown head gasket.Do I need to be concerned or is this common on this engine? The engine runs great I love the truck and have converted from a loyal ford guy to Toyota given the good reviews.GREAT site by the way.

Whats the coolant level? Have you had to add any? More than likely its just condensation that hasn't burned off.

thanks for the quick response The coolant level is fine -none has ever been added.I will keep an eye on it.If there is any needed then I guess thats a good sign a gasket prob. might be there.I have to use this truck daily for work and would hate to have to drop it off at the dealer for hours -days or ??? but at least if there is a serious prob. its under warranty. Thanks again.
x2 on the condensation. It doesn't take much water at all to make oil look like chocolate milk. You will get condensation on the underside of the oil fill cap, especially in the winter when engine bay temps don't get as high.
If you had a head gasket leak, cracked block, etc, you'd know it in a hurry. As long as your dipstick shows good oil then you're doing ok.
As stated, it's condensation and it's normal. You have baby poop inside the oil cap because of:
1) Cold weather
2) Short trips (the engine doesn't reach, and stay at, full operating temps long enough to burn off the condensation)
3) A long plastic oil fill tube, which insulates the cap from engine heat
+1
Mine was like that the last oil change (27K). I attribute it to many short trips I took on that specific oil change....engine did not get hot enough....

Yeah it's common to find that on the 1GR because of the oil filler extension and certain driving conditions as stated above.
You shouldn't have to worry about the head gaskets on the 1GR. They use a 3-layer MLS (multi-layered steel) type gasket on each bank, so none of that paper crap. Much more reliable too. The 4.3L 3UZ uses a 4-layer MLS gasket. Now that's overkill.

Yep, exactly. In the summer time when the weather is warmer, or if you take a long drive, there should be no signs of condesation on the inside of the oil filler cap.
Id agree with the others who say its just condensation and its nothing to worry about.
