I know this topic has been done a few times, but i was wondering if anybody has hauled a large 4X4 ATV in there truck. Did the bed hold up? how about the tailgate? Any other problems? Should I just get a trailer? Post pics with your truck loaded if you have any.
I built a set of ramps for the front tires of the quad to sit on and could close the tailgate. It was an 07 Yamaha Grizzly 700, big quad. I also had an Access cab though.

I adda pic of my double cab with a 400lb yamaha warrior in the back. This was before I had my springs replaced under warrenty for sagging. This was the pic that got the service manager to replace them. Also I have a Jack Rabbit tonnou cover which pushes everthing back 12". Hope it helps!
Are you loading the quad with the tailgate on or off?
I would leave the tailgate on.

Reason: spelling, wouldn't want to offend the mods
I used to haul a Yamaha Kodiak 450 (Grizzly in the US) with my Tacoma. They are 600# dry, closer to 700# with fuel, oil and extras. The 700 Grizzly is less than 10# heavier. I use a folding 48" wide aluminum ramp that is supported at four points on the tailgate. Never had a problem with the tailgate or weight. The truck did sag but nothing like megamole's. You should leave the tailgate on. I had the 6' box and the rear tires stuck out enough that I couldn't close the tailgate. 3" more and I could.
You will never hurt the composite box hauling an ATV. They are great. I wish the Tundra had it.
Put an extra set of D-ring tie downs at the front of the box. There are several how-to threads on this. The rail tie downs are fine too as long as you don't go nuts with a ratchet strap. I never broke any.
aul my rancher 420 with my double cab short bed taco. I have a tool box also so I bought the atv carrier from cabelas and the carrier sits in the trailer hitch and holds the back tires of the bike. The back of the truck sags really badly but I guess thats just what happens with a 600# bike hanging out the back.
I always took the tailgate off when loading my honda recon
my 05 tacoma tailgate is very light weight and ive heard of people bending the tailgates loading quads and cycles. So just get a set of ramps that will but up to the rear of the truck bed when the tailgate is removed....aslo if the quad roles backwards into the tailgate it will bend the tailgate. Hope this helps
