Default Tekonsha Brake Controller

Hello all,

I'v read several posts regarding Electric Brake Controllers and I see that most of you like the Prodigy or the P3 units offered by Tekonsha. I'm going to tow a dual axle trailer, with 7" electric brakes with my 06' Tacoma DC V-6. I've got the factory towing package, so I'm half way there... The trailer empty is just under 1400 lbs, and the max load I'll every carry would be 3 snowmobiles totalling about 1500 +/- depending on how much fuel is in them,+ gear, so I can safely say I can't see towing more than 3500 lbs. Can anyone advise weather the P3 would work better than the Prodigy, or would the Prodigy be okay?

Thanks a bunch
Bernie

Thanks. I think for the extra couple bucks, I'll go with the p3.

You should seriously consider the Hensley TruControl Gold controller...it's on sale...about $200 plus shipping. It's over 50% off since they are clearing their inventory fer the next generation of their controllers.

I just bought a 2900 lbs. Popup camper and towed it this weekend with my new Prodigy brake controller and the thing worked like a dream. The camper has electric brakes and it worked smooth.

I run a P3 with my 06 d/cab and tow a 2000lb 16 foot Airstream. It looks good, can be found for around $100, is a snap to setup... and importantly... works! It is very easy to set the threshold, limits and boost (if wanted/needed). I only wish they could make these things a bit smaller, but they all seem to be about the same size.

Someday, 'towing package' will mean an on-board brake controller. I know it is an option on some of the big Fords...
