I have an 05 Tacoma Dcab Longbed w/ sport package. I have 68,000 miles and I notice that the gas milage is not as good as it used to be. I used to get high 18s consistantly before changing to 1 size larger Nitto Terra Grapler tires. At that time I was getting low 18s. Now I barely get 17 and I am babying it. I have inflated my tires to 42psi in the front and 40psi in the back. I run Mobil 1 in the engine, and rear diff. Anyone else losing milage?
I've got the same problem. I switched to 265/70/17 BFG At's and am barely getting 17mpg some days. It didn't drop off right after I got the tires though. I was getting 19.5 at times on the highway up to 21mpg at one point. Now I may get 18 on all highway mileage. It didn't drop off right after I got the tires either, it was several months later. I have about 65,000 miles on mine.
I have not used the calculation. I checked my speedometer by using my GPS and it shows the speed is right on. The milage seems on too. Should I still use the calculation?
The 3.4% will still only equate to about .5 mpg wont it? My mixed driving is about 16.5 to 17.5 mpg never more than that if there is any city driving involved at all. I got 19 on a trip to the dunes last year and that was all highway non stop driving. I really like this truck and I realize its a truck but it gets poor mileage for as advanced as vehicles have come these days. I've driven my dads crew cab 3/4 ton a few days during the week and can get the same mileage out of his truck that I do out of mine. Although his isnt quite as nimble. Just because its a truck is not an excuse for the mileage to be in the toilet. I'm not asking for 30 mpg or id have gotten a lil car for that but some reasonable mileage is not too much to ask these days with the advancements in technology.

I am not sure if this will help but I have gotten consistent 16 mpg's since new then at 30000 I changed my spark plugs to all ND (the truck had ngk's on the drivers side head and ND's on the passenger side) stock plugs replaced my air filter front and rear diff fluid with mobile one and my transfer case with mobile one all 75w90 and I greased the u joints with mobile one grease. I am now getting 18mpg mostly in town driving. I may be 30 but I still drive with a lead foot. I was shocked at the increase in the first tank after I did the service I am now at 32000 and still getting 18mpg.
I have change spark plugs at 30,000 with stock plugs and at 60,000 with NGK Iridium IX at $7 a piece with no increase in milage, power or starting. Changed rear diff to Mobil 1. I drive as easy as possible, I get passed by everyone. My daily commmute is stop and go on a two lane high way with traffic lights every 1/4 mile for the first 8 miles of my commute. Then high way for 5, then side roads for 2miles. Average mileage 17mpg. Went on a road trip all highway arverage was 18.9mpg drove about 75mph. It should have done better than that.
Gotta wonder if it's winter gas. The higher alcohol mix in the winter definitely lowers mileage, by about the amount you are seeing. If you have done the maintenance stuff needed (air filter, fuel filter), replace O2 sensor (which, if bad, can make it run rich), then it may just be winter gas.
Well my last tank. Mostly highway around 70mph or so was 18.25mpg. not doing any funky math to acount for larger tires. I got 253 miles and put in 13.86 gallons. Seems much better in the last couple weeks.
