The fresh air / recirculate button in my Tacoma is operating automatically. I don't remember it doing this in my 2005. I had the vent on recirc (orange light on) and three different times this morning it "changed" and opened the vent. Is this a new feature or something? I have only had the 2009 a couple of days and have not gotten that far in the manual yet.

Did not have the selector switch set on the defrost setting - it was on the head/foot setting with the recirc button "on" (orange light was on).

Was that the face/foot setting or defrost/foot setting? Any setting with defrost on it and the fan on will set it to fresh air and turn the a/c on. At no other time should it change the recirc setting.

Face/foot setting. It would stay on recirc for a bit, and then change on it's own to the fresh setting - meaning the light would go off and air would begin flowing through the vents.

I noticed this on my 09 Tacoma when I purchased it last fall.
The trick appears to be that you have to press and hold the
recirculate button for either 3 or 5 seconds...otherwise it
reverts back to outside air every few minutes. Give it a
try and see if it works for you.

I will give this a try - nothing else seems to be working. Thanks.

I guess I will head to the service dept if I can't get it to stop doing this.

Mine is doing the same thing, it seams to look at the outside air and inside cabin temp? Hate it... I also will look at pushing the button.

Pressing & holding the button seems to have done the trick.

Have you guys read the owner's manual to see if this is something they added? I can see it as a possibility. I know that we only use the recirc button when passing through smoke (wife has severe asthma). Then we have to switch it back to fresh air. Maybe toyota (or Delphi) found that this is the most common situation where people use it and set it to revert back to fresh automatically? Just a thought.

I cannot find it in the manual anywhere. I have pretty bad allergies and would like to keep the outside air out.

Just a FYI the pollen filter really does do a relatively good job of catching those allergens.
