Default Just Replaced Rear Window

I shattered the driver side glass panel on my rear window this weekend and just had the whole rear window unit replaced for $508 even though the center slider and passenger side window panel was fine. My local Toy dealer wanted $930 for an OEM unit so I opted for an aftermarket CR Lawrence unit that listed for $385 on my invoice. I still have the OEM window unit. Do you think any of the unbroken glass panels can be removed and reinstalled as a replacement for broken glass panels in another Taco of the same generation or is the window glass useless?

The rear window is sold as a unit -- including weatherstripping -- and parts are not available separately from Toyota. Pretty much what you have found out so far.

So while the unit is probably useless, I would think the center panel would be worth salvaging. I have not tried to remove it, though. If it can be removed, save it -- you might need it later, or it could be sold or traded.

You're right. I looked at the old unit this morning and took some pictures so I can post them here for other peoples benefit. The guy who removed the window said he used a machine to pull the window off. From the looks of it, it looks like the seal is glued to the cab and a piano wire was used to slice the seal. There's also two screws at the base of the window frame that probably fixes the frame to the body of the cab. The passenger and driver side windows look like they were molded into the urethane-like window frame. I tried to figure out a way to remove these panes without destroying the glass or the molding but could not. I removed the center slider easily by sliding the glass to one side and by pulling out the upper and lower gaskets. I was then able to remove the center window easily.

I'll probably sell the glass unit on ebay or to anyone on this forum who needs it since I now have an aftermarket window.

I'll try to post the pics as soon as I can download the photos from my camera.
