Default Tire size and ABS issue with 05' tacoma

I have a 05' tacoma and I am getting ready to put new tires on. I want to go to the largest tire possible with no modifications. The store that I am working with recommends a 265/70R16. I have read that a 265/75R16 will fit with no clearance issues. the salesman says that the larger tire will cause issues with my ABS system and could potentially cause the ABS to fail. Does anyone have any input that could help with my problem.

The ABS system has no idea how big your tires are. It also doesn't care. All it knows is all 4 tires are supposed to turn the same speed. When that isn't happening it gets pissed and tries to fix it. When it can't it throws an ABS light.

The salesman is a squid and is just trying to cover his ***.....

Offroad FJ's come with 265/75-16s. Both Tacos and FJs have the same sensors telling the ECU how fast the tire is turning. So I guess the FJ must have the ABS light on all the time....

Thanks for the insight. So the 265/75 tires will fit with no clearance issues? Can the ABS light be cleared by disconnecting the battery cable?
Thanks.

265/75's might rub just a bit a the back of the front wheel openings. It seeemd to vary truck to truck as to whether or not you have to remove the front mud flaps.

As for clearing the ABS code and there-by turning off the light by D/Qing the battery. I really don't have an answer. It may require a scan tool. If your light is on try it and see, you have nothing to loose except your clock and radio presets...... RON
