Default Interior Room

Hi! I have searched the forums and haven't seen this question addressed specifically... Seen a few that were close but not really the answer to my question...

I currently have a 1st gen (2002) DC Tacoma. Works great for getting the two kids in an out of, etc. (The previous T-100 had a big enough back seat, just hard to lean back there and help the kids buckle up, etc. with no access doors) While I LOVE this truck, I'll more than likely be trading withing the next year or maybe two. And for my next truck I'd like to gain a little bit of the interior width that I used to have in the T-100.

I've been told that the new generation of Tacomas (double cab) are just as wide and have just as much interior room as the 1st gen Tundras that were access cabs. Is this a true statement? Also,, I wouldn't mind hearing from some of you guys that have kids, how many, how old, and how well they fit in the back seat of the new gen Tacoma DC's...

thanks!
Matt

If you haven't sat in the backseat of a new gen DC, then do so. You'll be amazed at how comfy it is. Adults fit just fine. That's what sold us. Our daughter was 7 when we bought ours. Since we planned to have this truck forever, we wanted to make sure it would be comfortable enough for her (and any of her friends) throughout high school. We're not disappointed. And, we've hauled more adults back there than I ever thought we would (sometimes as long as a 3-hour trip and no complaints...well, only from my daughter when her Grandpa tickles her).

Agreed 100%. It was definitely a strong selling point with us also.

The large rear doors make for easy entry/exit, and the windows go all the way down (take that, Nissan Frontier).

If memory serves, the current Tacoma is 4" wider than the 1st gen Tacoma, and 4" narrower than the 1st gen Tundra. I seem to recall the rear seat of the 1st gen Tundra Access Cab as being small, restrictive, uncomfortable for adults, and difficult to get into & out of. The rear seat of the current Tacoma DC is every bit as good as in many cars, and the seatbacks fold flat for cargo space when you need it.

I'm 6'3" (6'4" with boots) and I get a little cramped when people sit behind me, but there's still plenty of space for people behind. I don't feel like I'm getting kneed in the back while driving. I'm used to sitting close to the steering wheel anyway since my MR2's steering wheel doesn't telescope like the Tacoma's does and I don't like when I feel like I have to stretch my leg to push in the clutch.

I've had 5 people, all adults, fit comfortably (okay, 4 if you include my little gripe). Ingress and egress are all easy for both the front and rear passengers. For extra cargo space the rear seats do fold down like Splicer said, but I don't recommend it because you have to sit up completely straight because it limits the adjustment of the seat back. I had a 3 hour drive of that and was pretty uncomfortable. But, if you're shorter, go for it.

A lot of people complain about the front seating position being on the floor, but if it were any higher, I'd have trouble seeing out of the windshield, and I'd likely hit my head on the headliner on rough roads. So, it's fine for me.
