I don't know if this works on the 2010 but depending on your individual needs you can consider trying this after YOU ensure that this will IN NO WAY ENDANGER YOUR SAFETY or in any way CHANGE OR ALTER YOUR VEHICLES ABILITY TO STOP.
This won't work once the truck is cranked and the emergency brake is released. On my 2 trucks and on my vehicles of the past all I had to do was to pull the emergency brake ONLY 1 CLICK or if it is foot activated PRESS THE E-BRAKE ONLY 1 CLICK and then crank the truck and the lights should stay off. You might be thinking "hey, won't this engage my brakes and burn them up?". Not according to the dealers I have spoken to and it has worked fine for me on many occasions. It is also important to note that I only used this option for short term use when needed. You know, bank get away, ha ha! Running away from the old lady, ha ha! I don't want you to mess your brakes up so I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you contact your dealer and ask them if by engaging the E-brake only 1 click is it applying any brake pressure and make sure that the pads are NOT touching the rotors.
PLEASE DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!
I'm not trying to scare you away from trying this but I am not familiar with the 2010 Tacoma; but, if you have any questions let me know and I will try to help.
Thanks for the reply. I did press the emergency brake one click and the lights didn't come on. I don't think the EB would be engaged with one click but I will ask the dealer if it is ok to do that. Again I appreciate the info.
Hope that helps for your application until you find an easier more permanent solution. Good Luck. Super Booger says "you want to pick on me, go ahead and make my day!" ha ha ha ha
I talked to the service manager while I was getting my Tundra serviced yesterday and in his personal opinon it won't hurt anything with one click other than it may loosen the cable a little bit as it takes 7 clicks for it to engage. He did say that he could not suggest I do it as Toyota does not recommend it. I don't know why the lights are bothering me as I can't see them when I am driving. I guess I just don't think I need lights on during the daytime.
I have found that when it rains I don't have to worry about turning on my lights because they are already on, so in a sense it is a nice convenience. I have this feature on my 2002 Tundra with no issues and no bulb replacements, can you believe it? I know, it is hard to believe. Of course the dealer can't advise anything contrary to Toyota policy. That would be like the Government giving you a legitimate tax break. I DON'T THINK SO!
Just FYI, many studies have been done and according to those studies that I read about many years ago, supposedly, it does help to have your lights on for safety. Maybe your insurance Co. can give you a break for that safety feature? It doesn't hurt to ask.
They must be good bulbs after 8 years and no bulb replacement. I should get a break with the insurance because of the star safety system. I talked to the agent and the Vin number isn't showing up in their system yet.
I personally would not want those DTRL's for the Tacoma because of the melting problems. Sounds like those turn signal bulbs are too hot for the housing to stay on all the time:
