v6 engine noise

just bought a 2010 v6 double cab and i am already finding small problems that i am wondering if anyone else is having. I have read on here about the ticking noise of the v6 and have not heard this on my vehicle yet. What i do hear is a whine from what i think is the engine sounds like a whine or sewing machine. I put the truck in neutral and rev the engine to about 2K and it is very noticeable also noticable when driving around town. Is this Normal?. And has anyone found out if there is a fix for the transmission lag. A friend of mine got in my new $30k truck and stated your transmission is whining and slipping but im not sure its just a combination of normal noises in a new tacoma that sound abnormal/ act abonormal but are normal for the tacoma. Just dont want a transmission failure at 80k i plan on getting 250k miles out of this truck before i get rid of it. Please respond if these are normal Thanks Andy

My 2010 V6 sounds the same, just like an old Singer sewing machine. I have to say it's normal. I had a V6 F-150 and a V6 Explorer and they too sounded like sewing machines. I know a Ford is different, but it just seems to be common with newer engines. As for the transmission, mine shifts fine. It downshifts coming to a stop and upshifts just fine to me. It is just how this trans is.
