Default Tire size VS. Automatic transmission

Hi,
I have a 2005 4WD V6 tacoma and I want to instal 285/75/16 tires. Does somebody know if it can cause any probleme with the automatic transmission? Does somebody run this setup with an automatic trans. truck?

Thanks!

Welcome to TS!

No transmission problems but they'll rub without a lift. The tallest you can fit with no lift & no clearance issues is 265/75-16.

I had a 2001 that I put tires the equivilant of 33's on. The only issue was really that it needed gears and it was a real dog without a set of gears.

Thanks for the infos. I already have a 3 inch lift installed I think it will prevent rubbing. But I heard that the shifting point will change with bigger tires, does it makes a big difference?

On the A750, the shift points have a factory default when the ECU is cleared, but those shift points change based on driving style. It's not the shift points you should be worried about. It's about lengthening the overall final drive with taller tires. You'll reach the same MPH at a lower engine RPM at a cost of acceleration performance.

You can change the rear end ratio if you feel down on power.

thanks. Do you think the lost of power will be acceptable without changing the rear end ratio, or it will be necessary to change it?
