Default Killing the Starter

I own a 1998 Tacoma 4 cyl FWD. For the past 6 months I have had problems with the starter. There have been times when I put the key in the ignition turn it and nothing happens. If I wait a few munites, turn the ignition again it fires right up. A friend of mine owns a shop and we replaced the starter. Worked fine for about three months then the same thing all over again. We replaced the starter again, started fine for about a month and now I am back at square one We checked the last starter and it was dead! What is it that could be killing the starter?

Are the teeth on your flywheel in spec? Is the starter adjusted properly to engage the flywheel? The starters that had died on you, are they damaged on the gears, or are the electric motors dead? Have you been buying aftermarket or OEM parts? Is your electrical system not sending enough juice to the starter? Is it sending too much?

The flywheel is in spec. The starter engages the flywheel properly. There is no damage on the gears. It appears the motors are dead. No these are not OEM parts (I don't think). Yes it is sending enough juice to the starter. Is there a known or common problem with starters on the 1998 Tacoma?

buy an oem starter,id be willing to bet no more problems, reman factory starters are a 100 percent rebuilt, the only thing that is reman is the housing "all new enternals" as after market starters go,the replace what ever item is bad in side the starter, thats why there so cheap.good luck.
