I didn't expect the big bed on the double cab. The big question now is when can I get it.

I was told 9/16 by a "salesperson" so who knows. I think it will be Dec. or so before you can actually purchase one without paying sticker.

Well... I LIKE IT!!!

Only problem is... it'll be a "looooooooooooong" time before I can get one. Especially... considering that I just bought my '04 Double Cab... AND... the wife's '04 Camry XLE in May!

Besides... my '95 Tacoma only has 125K... heck... it's just broken in good!

I think they're encroaching on their own market.... The Tacoma Double Cab Long bed has a longer wheelbase than the Tundra Double Cab, and only 1" less bed length. If I wanted something that freakin' long, I'd go with the Tundra V8.

DAMN! I didn't realize that when I first looked at the article!

In that case...

That's because they are going to make the tundra bigger in the next generation. It only made sense cause it would cost more to change it later when the next tundra comes out. Now that DC taco with the 6" bed is awsome. Atleast they know not all DC owners use it for groceries.

Default Spotted a white 2005 ext-cab Tacoma today

Was driving to work when I saw a black car with camoflauge on the front and rear bumpers coming down the road towards me. It caught my eye and thought that it looked like Toyota.

About 2 mins behind that car came a white truck with black camo against a white truck. I instantly noticed it was a new Taco, simply because I've been obsessing over it for a long time. And lemme tell you, the thing looks great.

It was a white, extended cab base model. No TRD or X trism on it... just a regular ol Tacoma. And it looked very sweet. I tried to get the camera phone out but it passed before I could muster it. :P

Exclamation 2005 Tacoma Release Date

I spoke to someone at Longo Toyota near me in Southern California. They are the largest Toyota dealer in the nation, I think worldwide as well. Anyway, they gave me some specific dates on the 05 Tacoma. They told me Sept 20th would be the day Production starts, and they would hit the Longo Toyota lots Oct. 18th.

Considering they are the #1 Toyota dealer worldwide, I think their date may be fairly accurate however I would take any info with a grain of salt when it comes to dealers. However they have proved to be the most helpful so far regarding release dates. They didnt have any pricing info yet though.

Hope this helps!

Thumbs down

That's too bad. edmunds and others have suggested mid September for at least limited availability. Except for the recent "first drive" comments from a couple of media sources there is far too little accurate information available on the new Tacoma. I know a couple of fleet buyers for mid-sized service companies that were considering the new Tacoma that will now purchase something else rather than wait the additional 6-weeks. Shame on Toyota for being so tight lipped!

So many manufacturing companies withhold information on new products believing release will adversely affect sales of current models. In addition to being an incorrect premise, it shows the short-sightedness of the organization. Toyota should annouce a release date for both factual information and product availability.

Longo Toyota isn't just the largest Toyota dealer in the US, they are the largest Toyota dealer in the world. They are also the largest dealer in the world, period. This was as of a few years back (~3 years ago) so I bet it still holds true.

Spkrmakr, sales of current modes DO go down when manufacturers announce an all new vehicle is hitting dealers. They are then forced to increase profit eroding rebates, etc. to spur sales of the outgoing model. I too wish Toyota had released some info as they are the worst at waiting till the last minute.

Manufacturers do typically experience a drop in sales when the "initial" word leaks or is announced of significant change or replacement of current products. In the case of the Tacoma, word has been out for over a year. Many have postponed purchases to see what happens. Once a pending change becomes common knowledge those who will wait and those who will accept the current product is quickly established. Rebates as "cash back" and financing incentives are typically used to motivate customers to purchase and clear inventories. Many consumers use a model change to achieve real savings.

I fault Toyota for not providing a clear date or time period to establish the release of information and product availability. I have been a Toyota customer for nearly 15-years. While I find Toyota to build the finest cars and trucks in the world I find their customer service and sales policies to be among the poorest and unresponsive available. Their lack of information is par for the course.

Default Different Parking Brakes on the 2005 Taco...weird

When the initial photo's of the x-runner came out, I noticed they went with the original 'pull-and-twist' parking brake.

http://www.tundrasolutions.com/photo...ort/1/cat/6136

After reading the PUT.com article (on the bottom of pg.2) I noticed the 4x4 double cab automatic had a different 'foot' parking brake.

http://www.pickuptruck.com/html/2005...ive/page2.html

Why would they do that? Is it split between 4x4's and 2wd's or is a difference between automatic and manual transmissions?

Just an observation from a soon-to-be 05' Taco owner.
