During the XRunner unveiling they mentioned 0-60 in around 7 sec. "More than a second less with the supercharger". I assume that means the V6 4.0 will have a supercharger available. I seem to remember it was close to 300hp and around 290 torque.
Does anyone know if the 16" rims I have on my Tundra will fit the Taco as well? I'm sure I'd go back down to a moderate tire size without any lift mod on the Taco, but would like to keep my rims.
I have never owned a Toyota truck before. This will be my first one. I am looking at getting the 2005 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab TRD by early next year. Cannnot wait!!!

I'll bet they will fit the 4x4. Based on the pictures the 2x4 seems to use a 5 bolt hub, and the 4x4 uses a 6 bolt hub like the Tundra. The new Taco looks like it has the same wheels as the new 4Runner. Does the 4Runner and Tundra have interchangeable wheels? My guess is that they will fit as long as you get a 4x4. I think the Pre-Runner uses the 6 bolt hub too, but I'm not sure.

Many just couldn't downgrade from a eight to a six even if the Tacoma will likely be the quicker of the two because of its lighter weight. The dimentions however look close to that of the current Tundra. I think I like the edgier styling on the new Tacoma next to the smooth Tundra look thats somewhat more reminicent of 1990's designs.

I'm thinking of trading my 02 Tundra for the DC 05 Taco! Almost did it for the 04 model but decided to wait for the 05's. Growing family, and for my needs it will be a good fit for us. I have said it before, and I'll say it again the tundras V8 has IMO, been weak on the low end torque. Now sure it's quick & @ 40mph it really kicks in, but for a V8 I expect more on low end torque. With oil prices being $50 or more per barrel & longer commute the Taco DC is looking alright! Test Drives will determine alot.

The V8 makes 256 lb ft. of torque at just 1100 RPM; more than the 3.4-liter V6 makes at its peak torque. The Tundra torque peak is lower than some of the domestic’s smaller V8 engines by at least 600 RPM.
If someone was buying new because they felt that gas mileage is poor after owning their current truck for a few years than how can they justify that buying a new truck again is cheaper than keeping what you have for a few MPG difference?
Here is how Motor Trend gets 0-60 in seven seconds with the 6-speed manual and V6 engine. They rev the engine up to near it’s redline, dump the clutch, and hammer the shifter through the gears several times until they can get it so that the tires don’t spin excessively. Would you do that to your standard transmission truck?
I did a few simple modifications and without even putting the pedal to the floor on initial acceleration to prevent spin I got 0-60 in 6.9 seconds with my 2001 2WD V8 access cab Tundra on the G-tech today. I average just over 7-seconds going both ways. Nothing beats a DOHC V8 engine with over 315 lb ft of torque!
To keep this somewhat on topic I personally won’t be trading my Tundra in for a new Tacoma anytime soon because I love my current truck. I also don’t want to experience a $700 excise tax bill again like I did my first year with this truck.

It's called kid's in the back seat...Double Cab vs. Ext cab. Nope never complained about gas mileage, its been pretty good in all fairness. So why not make more room for the kids in the back & save a little gas milage? Also our state legislature recently passed a bill that will allow certain consumers to write off the sales tax of newly purchased vehichles, & I am in that category. The tundra has been good don't get me wrong. My needs are changing so why not let my hard earned tax dollars benefit me & my family!
I own a 2002 SR5 Access Cab with TRD package and I am comparing the specs and thinking about the 2005 Tacoma Double Cab. The specs are darn close to my Tundra and it would be nice to have the Double Cab. I was thinking about the new Tundra but that Double cab is getting awful expensive and big for my needs.
My lease is up next June so I guess I can see how the quality of the first Tacoma's are and hopefully see a spy pic or two on the 2006 Tundra before I make up my mind.
Any other thoughts?
Actually I have been considering the 05 Tacoma for months. My dealer finally got one in Saturday. He called me and I went to see it today, already sold. But I didn't feel so bad when I was told the vehicle had been marked up 3000 bucks above MSRP. I am the kind of guy who not only cannot pay MSRP for any vehicle, I usually can only go a few hundred bucks above dealer invoice at the most. So with that in mind I feel like because these trucks have been so anticipated and supply might not keep up with demand, that I will probably drive my Tundra a few more years. Although maybe in a few months I will take a drive to a much larger dealership an hour away and see if by then he is ready to deal but I won't hold my breath with a brand new redesigned model.
Now that the specs are on edmunds, I did a comparison on Tundra DC vs. Tacoma DC. Althought I think the Tacoma is an awesome truck that is going to be a hit - I will keep the Tunda...for now
I had planned to dump my 04 DC for an 05 DC Tacoma. This was because the Tundra DC was too big for my driving taste and gas mileage was terrible. Then Toyota announced the hp increase with vvt-i and the new tranny. I also got tired of waiting for the Tacoma to be released. I also considered 1st-year design potentials for problems. I bought an 05 Tundra Stepside.
Today I finally got my chance to look at and see an 05 Tacoma (Dark Blue), Prerunner, DC with the long bed. It had the TRD Sport package and was a nice truck. This is a BIG improvement over previous Tacoma models and will probably be a big seller to say the least. However, it was not for me and quantified my decision to buy the 05 Tundra. Regardless of measurements on paper the Tundra still feels much roomier inside in terms of width and height. Though some say the Tundra interior is dated, I find it much more pleasing to my taste and felt the overall quality of materials was better. The seat fabric in the Tacoma was really different. It might have been a water resistant option of some sort.
I really hope the first year Tacoma is problem free. After watching Toyota and how they transition vehicles from the 1st year I think we can all look forward to the 2008 Tacoma. I will reconsider then.
I got an appt. tomorrow @ my dealer for a test drive in a 05 DC TRD 4x4. He and I had been yaking one day about it so he gave me a courtesy call yesterday when his first shipment came in. I'm really, really curious about this truck. Before buying my 04 Tundra DC, I owned 3 pre-tacoma toyota 4wd pickups: an 86 turbo, 90 SR5, & 95 SR5. I share spkrmakr's comments on the DC size so I'm going to investigate my options.... either a new tacoma or an 05 Tundra AC.
For those considering the new taco I just purchased one. All I can say is that their not cheap. I could of got a 05 tundra cheaper. I'm paying $20 month more and for another year over my previous taco, and their not even that good looking. But it rides better, more power, a little bigger, 6 speed, cool hood scoop, ugly, But smells new.
We bought my wife a 2004 tundra [Ilike it so much that now I am thinking of selling my F350 Super Duty & getting a 2005 Taco. Gonna go check one out soon.
