TacomaGeneral discussion forum for the 2005 and later Toyota Tacoma.
This is a discussion thread titled "Any 05 Tacomas out there with the SKIDPLATE ?", within the Tacoma forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Did you get the Sport or just color matched the door handles and mirrors?
Here's a pic of mine a day after I got it.
Its the TRD "Sport" ....I just couldn't live with the TRD stickers and took them off on day one. It just seems to flow better without them. My last Taco was white, and the stickers look MUCH better on a white background, like your truck
So how do you get the stickers off safely? I'm not that fond of them either. I did manage to catch mine early enough at the dealer so that they didn't put on their own sticker - I really hate those dealer decals. Do you take off the badges and can the same process be used on them?

Stickers are easily removed when its a warm-ish day. I did mine the second week of ownership, on a sunday afternoon...after it sat in the sun. However, if you've got a good relationship with your local window tinter, ask them if you can "borrow" their heat gun for about 20 minutes. I can tell you that if you're careful with its use, it can be a painless process. You just need to get the edges warmed up (not HOT) and you should be able to peel the stickers off in ONE piece. If its really cold out, the plastic becomes more brittle, so take the time to heat (not too hot, but warm to the touch) up the entire sticker.
the same process goes for the badges, except that I use a wooded popsicle stick to slowly pry the plastic emblems off.
I got my dealer to throw in a front skid plate. How? Cause those salespeople didn't know a thing about the truck. I told them that the package was missing a front skid plate. It included the ENGINE skid plate but not the front. So I was saying "Well where's the skid plate?" They didn't know what I was talking about so I showed them a picture of the front skid plate. So they said they'd order it and put it on for me. Now I just have to wait until it comes in. I also ordered the tube steps too. Being this is my first truck ever, I tested every truck out there and I have to say that I'm really happy with the new Tacoma.
The skid plate looks great but what pisses me off is that for $190 all you get is the front plate. On the GMC Sierra truck for $95 you get the following
NZZ Skid Plate Package
Includes aluminum skid plates to protect front underbody, oil pan, differential case and transfer case.
My brothers two GMC trucks have been solid for over 100,000 miles each. I can't believe there isn't more price pressure on Toyota to charge reasonable prices for these accessories.
ya the metal is nice n' thick and ya it looks cool as all hell but what pisses me off is how there are two huge square shaped holes in the front of the skidplate which will undoubtfully catch jagged rocks and peel that sucker right off the under carraige. and if not, will def. put this beast to a hault.

Hi all, the TRD package includes a skid plate. Is this the silver/alum one? How many of you got this with the truck? My truck did not have the alum one but has a black cover under the engine. My sticker says it had one in the package, although I am not sure which one.
Please advise if i need to go back and ask for one.
Thanks
I have the Aluminum Skid plate. I think it looks great, and it is most definitely functional (I had the whole front of the truck resting on it on a rock the other weekend) Now it is full of scratches, looks even better now!
Some people have complained of cracking or vibrations, I have experianced neither of those problems and I am gload ive got it on the truck, worth $190? I dont know, it came on my truck including the TRD Floor mats and the Valor Exaust tip. I wast arguing that price, it was the 13000 the offered for my 35K Saab that I was haggling...

I think the aluminum plate looks sweet also, particularly on my silver truck. Mine cracked so I am waiting for the redesigned one but I did really like it and feel that it was functional as well. It goes back pretty far which is a huge help IMO. Worth $190 I don't know, I got mine for free so it is completely worth it to me

I think I was not too clear in my above post. My mistake. I would like to know from other TRD package owners whether the aluminum skid plate was part of the TRD package (OG) Thanks for bieng patient with me, this is my first Toyota.
