TacomaGeneral discussion forum for the 2005 and later Toyota Tacoma.
This is a discussion thread titled "Any 05 Tacomas out there with the SKIDPLATE ?", within the Tacoma forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
I stopped by my dealer for the first oil change last week, and saw a speedway blue trd sport DC with the skid plate($199), OBX Pedals (?), and a cheesy clamp-on tailpipe extension ALL from Toyota (not dealer installed)!
Out of all of that, I only liked the skidplate option, but it does hang down below the front bumper more than I would like. Other than that, it looks like a beefy piece of aluminum, and adds a very nice touch. However, it doesnt look as well integrated into the lines of the NEW trucks as the older tacoma/4runner body style.
Anyone have this option, or have you seen it, and what's your take on it?
I've seen one and liked it enough to order it on my 05 Taco AC. I won't be testing the functionality of it that much, but I thought it added a little something extra to the front look of the truck.
Some day, I hope to actually get the truck.. I guess it will be a few more weeks.

Oil change already? How many miles do you have on your '05?
I've seen it on a midnight blue '05 and it sure adds some style to it, but it's something I wouldn't buy for $199. That same one had those cheesy OBX pedals=$109 (which only cost about 30 bucks) and a Valor-sp? exhaust tip for $75 too.
Honestly I think that skid plate isn't really worth $199 comparing to how much those other add-on pieces really go for.

I just hit 1500 miles this past weekend! Took delivery on the 20th of October. But, I do have a 70 mile commute to work....so that has alot to do with my mileage....after all, thats why I bought a Toyota
I'm running Mobil 1 (after the next oil/filter @ 3K,) and will continue to do so for as long as I can afford to.
I saw a silver DC sport like yours (ours) at my dealer the other day with step tubes, and skid plate among other things. They also have a silver AC with skidplate, full tint and TRD 18" wheels.
They both look sharp. I'm eyeballing the skidplate and tubes myself but it'll have to wait a few months. They only thing I've been able to buy is the mud floor mats. I'm looking at that roof rack, too.
The skid plate has some ~1/2" spacers at the bolts which may in fact lower the clearance. I'm not sure if the factory skid plate has the same spacers or not, I haven't looked yet.

I got mine in mid Oct also and I already have 2500 miles on it. I took it Parhump, NV to do some road racing-600 miles round trip and to Ocotillo-150-round trip 3 times. The manual says next schedule oil change is @ 5K. Should I be concerned?!!?
I like the looks of the plate but had it not already been installed on the truck I probably wouldn't have asked for it at that price. Mine looks like Sennasixty8's but with the 17" wheels, skidplate and running boards.
FYI, I'm running 275 55 20 nitto 404's and they did rub a bit on the mudflaps...so off those went, and I had to slightly trim the very tip of the fender well "liners" with a pair of cutting shears, and you cannot even tell that I trimmed anything.....very clean and sano!
Both are nice trucks...I am starting to like those TRD "Baja" wheels the more I see them. BTW, what package came with the color matched handles and mirrors? I was looking for that. I think that was the truck I was looking for at the end of October. But went back the Hayward Toyota and was gone.
