Well, it is pretty closely guarded now, but if you go out to 4S Ranch, (west rancho bernardo) its a new development and is under lots and lots of construction. There is the Black Mountain area if you take camino san bernardo all the way to the dead end then down the dirt trail. We have been going their for years! Dont go after it rains unless you have 4wd, cause the mud is notorious! It actually used to be somewhat legal to off-road and 4 wheel out there. Its mostly public land, and in the afternoon you can see hang gliders taking off out there. Nowadays the poway sherrif likes to hang out there and bust people cause its technically private property cause they will be makign 8 million homes there in the next few years, but man we had some great times out there. Definately worth the trip if you are in north county.

In San Marcos, there are some trails right behind Palomar College where I go to school. If you go to the back parking lot by the 'P' mountain and keep going north, you will find some awesome trails...

Also, up the 15 quite a ways in Riverside county, just north of Temecula in the Wildomar/Elsinore area are some trails and such right off the frwy that i think are mostly used for atvs and motocross..

But yeah, ocotillo wells is hands down the best place in San Diego county since you dont have the risk of getting a ticket.

I don't want to off road having the risk of getting a ticket (have enough of them) I usually come across ones that say "NO TRESSPASSING. VIOLATERS WILL BE PROSECUTED" like the I-905 area so where are the legal ones people usually off road?

there's a place that's known by mountain bikers. its called Anderson Truck Trail. its up in alpine. 100% legal. its called Anderson road then turns into the Truck Trail. there are private houses there so don't go there. you take the 8 freeway till you reach the tavern road exit. then go up the hill, coming form the west its a left, coming from the east its a right. it turns into Victoria Place Terrence. Go until you hit the cemetery then turn left on to Victoria Drive. the road turns into W Victoria Drive, then to N Victoria Drive then to E Victoria Drive. Anderson should be on your left right before a big right turn. it is a paved road until you see a gate. it is always open so just go threw there. its a dirt road until you get to this fairly large area where you can park with who ever your going with. either air down or do what you want. you don't have to but its recommended for more traction between the ruts on the hills. its about a 4 mile trail, but it's fun. it ends on Peutz Valley Road. should take about 45-60 mins. to get threw the whole thing. i made it in my 1998 Ford Expedition and my friends 02 Tacoma and my dads 2wd Tundra. o and its so easy to get threw that I've seen 4 banger 2wd rangers go threw it with no problem. so most likely no need for tow straps. have funn!!!
