Hey there, I just read about your problem making a decision and maybe I can help. I've owned a (fast) Tundra for 4 years (I used to hang out in the tundra section of the site). But just recently I got an '05 Tacoma X-Runner. Here's the breakdown. There's just no beating a six-speed standard (stock or otherwise) Tacoma X-runner off the line with a Tundra (trust me :edit-unless its supercharged ). But the tundra (with headers and a cold air intake) would catch up pretty quickly to a taco in about the 50-65 mph speed bracket. My tacoma is stock right now, and JBA has mentioned that they have already made headers for the '05 tacoma's, but they're not available to the public yet. With even just a little work, the tacoma could easily spank any other truck on the road (sad to say since I was a huge tundra enthusiast). Not to mention the X-Runner was stated as having better handling than a Nissan 350Z. THAT IS A TRUE STATEMENT. This truck can corner like nothing I've ever seen.
BTW, you can check out my photo album for comparison pics. I don't have any good pics of the tacoma yet but I'll try to get some up tomorrow.
Best of all, as a standard, it's just so much fun to drive.
Hope that helped.

I just read some reviews on the X-Runner and it sounds pretty impressive. A dealer offered to let me drive whatever cars I want to so maybe I'll go test drive a X. I cant see any truck out cornering my previous MR2, but then again the suspension was far from stock so I guess its not a fair comparison if we are comparing stock vs stock.
Would be cool to have a X-Runner parked next to my 4x4 but til I get mine paid off thats not realistic. After having numerous sports and muscle cars right now Id rather have my one and only car the truck I drive now. It actually has room for adults to sit in the back, its 4x4 so I can go just about any where within reason. And I can actually put something in the "trunk", unlike the 2 small trunks I had in the mr2. The X has limited room in the back seat and it has limited ground clearance, which would be great for those not intending on going off road or taking more than one friends/family. If Toyota offered the X with real rear seats I could almost do without the 4x4 option. I suppose a DC 2x4 could be dropped and modified close to the X spec. Would be funny to watch a DC smoke a Mustang or Vette...
I wished Toyota would re-engineer the MR2 to go head-to-head with the NSX and the Vette. A Toyota supercar would be a thrill and I think it would spank some butts given their experience in making great cars/trucks and being involved in the racing field (Toyota Atlantic, Cart, Nascar, etc).

Bring back the Toyota Supra! I wonder if Toyota is gonna bring an updated version of the Supra back to the US, like Nissan has done with the 350Z/G35, Mazda with the RX8, and Acura/Honda with the NSX.
Yeah the Supra was a great car. Personally though I like the mid-engine feel. I thought about taking a MR2, stretching it out so a v8 could be fitted in the back. Of course starting off with a tube frame would be the best approach. Years ago I photoshoped some pictures of mr2's, and it looks pretty neat with a longer and wider body. Ever hear of the GRS MR2, which was a Rally racer that never took off, they were too fast/too dangerous. Imagine 500hp in a MR2, all wheel drive. But considering how much work would need to be done, along with $, I cant do it. If I do decide to do something like that I'd probably just buy a Ultima car and fit in a Toyota engine in it. Id just need to find a adapter from the Toy engine to the Porsche trans. Perhaps the engine from the Supra TT would be a great candidate... 600-1000hp. Only problem with the Ultima is the lack of roll-down windows, or the other factory bells and whistles like air bags, etc. Would be a awesome toy.

Its called a Lotus Elise.

Id say the Elise is along the size of the MR2, Miata, S2000, etc. Not saying the Elise isnt a awesome car, considering one video it shows it wasting a Ferrari (F40 if I remember right) on the corners but in the stretches the Ferrari pulled away. Looks like the Esprit is discontinued... I dont care for the pop-up lights either.
One of our contractors where I worked at last mentioned I should look at the Elise but Id like to have something with a little more room and more power. 190hp in a 2000lb car is great but its just not up to par with the ideal "supercar". Plus the parts for Lotus' are quite pricey. I thought the supercharger parts were pricey enough for the MR2, so.. With a lower production car comes with higher priced parts and goodies, so I guess you cant have your cake and eat it. Dont get me wrong, I dont want it to be a family car size, just big enough where you feel safe in it with room between you and the bumpers and the sides, more crumple zone I guess. I havent sat in a Elise yet but just looking at the stats I imagine it being no different than the other similar sized sports cars. I did check out the S2000, although it has a really great fit, like a glove, I wouldnt want it.

Yesterday I post my 1/4 mi. time but I forgot to post my 60 ft. (2.15 sec ) on a dbl cab auto. 2wd , as fast as an X Runner (or more) . Only mod , a set of 255/65R16 Kumho Ecsta.

Agreed. A tundra with headers, exhaust, and intake would easily out perform an XR in the higher speed bracket. But by the time it gets to that point, the Tundra would be too far behind for that to make a large difference. I've floored my Tundra many times, and I've floored the XR quite a few times, and I've got to say, it all comes down to the six-speed manual trans. That makes a WORLD of difference. It also (sad to say) makes sure that an automatic trans. Tundra would stay far enough behind. In fact, I think that's the ONLY reason the XR would win at all.

Do you guys really compare the XR to a tundra..Come on the v8 tundra ran like a 8sec 0-60 the XR is under 7sec stock. I think should more compare to the stock 4x4 taco vs tundra. From all the test i seen I say the taco would be right there with the v8 and easily take the v6

I agree...my friend has a access cab 2wd tundra, shall I race him on video? He's got intake and exhaust too...
Multiply that 1/8 mile time by two to get to the 1/4 mile. That would put you into the 18 second 1/4 mile. Of course give or take because you arent comparing apples to apples when comparing 1/8 to 1/4 times.
Thats not the way it works. LOL. So does that mean a 1000 hp car will be twice as fast as a 500 hp car? Nope.
Well... does anybody have 3rd party numbers (Car/Driver, etc...) that can be posted? All this "I ran 15.1, I ran 16.8" crap is useless. Who has the stats?
2wd AC Tundra -
2wd AC Tacoma -
or
4wd AC Tundra -
4wd AC Tacoma -
All stock 2005's. Forget about weight, displacement, temperature (a.k.a. excuses).
