Default Which truck is faster, Tacoma vs Tundra

I was thinking of buying either a new tacoma or Tundra. I wanted to compare the new 05, 2 door Tundra to either the 6 speed or auto Tacoma. Is the 8 cylinder base 2 door tundra faster? Do you think the Tundra drives better? Because I think toyota will deal on the Tundra. I am sort of favoring buying a Tundra instead of the Tacoma, but I am not sure.
Thank you
fred

Default DooooD!

That is a question you need to ask yourself!! But I will try to help out.

1. Which one do you like better?
2. Which one will be a better choice, size, power, gas mileage your garage etc.
3. Do you haul a heavy boat?
4. Parking tight where you work or live?
5. Cost is not a huge issue as they are not that far apart for the lower end models.

I chose a Tacoma for the following reasons:

1. Easy to park, drive and handle.
2. Looks KICK A$$!!
3. Good gas consumption.
4. Fits in my garage.
5. Carry a few things every now and then.
6. Did not need to tow as my wife has a navigator that pulls our toys pretty easily.
7. Best deal I found for a cash deal @ $25K.
8. Did I mention it looks kick A$$?

What are the posted stats for the comparison of both trucks? 0-60 times are usually available.

Car and Driver just reported 7.1 seconds 0-60 for a V-6 automatic double cab SR-5 Tacoma. Not bad at all! Does someone have a 0-60 time for a V-8 Tundra?

Default car and driver

Funny I just cut n paste from the car and driver article....

Our Tacoma needed just 7.4 seconds to reach 60 mph and 16.1 seconds for an 87-mph quarter-mile. The C/D data banks are thin on comparative compact pickups, but we do know that's fairly blazing. A GMC Canyon crew cab [C/D, June 2004] needed 8.9 seconds and 16.8 seconds at 83 mph, respectively. The last Tacoma we tested [C/D, August 1998], a PreRunner (hence, two-wheel drive) Xtracab with the old 190-horse

Where is a 2005 Tundra specs??

I had posted a response left by jon_lozon who said a Tacoma is much faster but then realized this is about why each of us made our choices and my decision wasn't made because I could beat a Tacoma (but I can).

I chose the Tundra because:

1. Rides and drives very quiet, smoother and better than ANY other truck.
2. Looks better than any truck made, bar none IMO.
3. Can you say V8?
4. Plenty of load and towing capacity for my needs.
5. It's a Toyota, need I say more?

Phil

I would love to pull along side of your 2002 with my 05 Tundra. Even with my truck being a Dcab, I think your mouth would drop. As for the new 05 Tacoma, I haven't had the pleasure of squaring off against one yet, but it I think it would be close if both trucks are stock.

A stock V8 Tundra of any year against a stock 04 or older Tacoma V6? You'll be seeing tail lights. Of that I have no doubt.

sorry, but my o2 would smoke you, which i sold it was s/c. i have an 05 xr, which you will only see tail lights. to mike elms, you better be on your game. my dad has a 03 tundra, headers, trd exhaust, s/c, and if we do rolling, i pull on him. ill get a video if i can, but id love to race you. and the v8 tundra has what 40 extra hp to lug around another thoasand pounds? tundra people bring it on!

PHIL0411 According to edmunds the curb weight of the X Runner is 3690lbs.
The 2dr Regular Cab Tundra is 4275lbs which is only a 585 Lbs difference. Are you still sure the tacoma is faster.

That quote was from previous test with a 6 speed - I was referring to a comparison test in the June '05 issue that listed 0-60 in 7.1 seconds, and the quarter mile in 15.7 seconds @ 88 mph for an automatic, V-6 SR5 double cab. That variablity could just be from one engine to another though, since I (and the C/D editors) find it odd that the automatic would be faster.
