I've got about 5500 miles on my Tacoma and over the last three road trips I've started hearing this noise that sounds like a blown up balloon that your holding the inlet with both index fingers and thumbs pulling on it making the high pitched noise that kids make with balloons to piss you off. Hopefully, that's discriptive enough. Anyway as I said this seems to have gotten worst over the last 3 road trips. It's on and off around 80 and then gets solid around 85ish and seems to only get louder as you go faster. The first time I heard it I thought it was just a really windy day and that the noise was a fluke.
I don't have ventshades or anything attached to the outside of the truck. I did notice on the last trip over this last weekend that if I press on the windshield near the top center the noise seems to change pitch. Obviously, some of you will say don't drive over 80 but most of my trips the speed limit is 70 and most traffic is doing atleast 80 and I like to go fast when given the opportunity.
I recorded the noise on my cell phone so atleast I could let the dealership hear it, but I plan to take someone there on a short road trip.
I've heard of some of you mentioning wind noise and and am curious if this is what you meant. Anyone else hearing this noise or had this noise fixed?
Thanks in Advance...

What i do is this. If you don't have a steam machine or any kind of machine that will generate steam, rent one. Bring it inside your truck and close all the windows and doors. Have a few people stand outside the truck to observe and go all along the seams of your windows with the steam machine. I would do it mostly along the seal of your wind sheild since you said if you push on it, it changes pitch. As soon as steam finds a place to seap out, someone outside the truck will see the area and you will then know where it is, and proceed to fix it. Do this several times around the entire inside of the cabin just incase you miss a spot. Hope this helps. Report back and tell us if this helps you any.

I too have heard this, mine sounded like the driver side door though at about 90 going to Arizona

A friend of mine had a Camry that had a slightly out of spec windshield frame, which caused the windshield to pull away from the adhesive in one spot - they would re-glue it, but it always came back. He bailed and sold his car - I hope you don't have to do that.

You have described the noise precisely. It really made me jump when I heard it the first time -- thought the windshield was about to fly off. My dealer's service department said they could do nothing about the noise since they couldn't drive over the speed limit to reproduce it.
In fact, the service representative at Tim's Toyota in Prescott, AZ refused even to write down the problem I was reporting because he said they could not write up a problem that they could not check out. Consequently, I guess I'll have to wait until something awful happens.
Try taking a piece of masking tape, and taping across the top of the windshield and see if that helps disipate the noise. This will help you pinpint the noise. Take the service person for a spin and show them the noise before and after.
It is also possible that it is the aerodynamics of the factory roof rack making the whistling noise abouve 80.

I hear it also in my 05 DC. I'm not sure about the passenger side but I definately hear it on the driver side somewhere around the mirror. It did it before I put on the vent shields and it still does it.
Hey 88ToyLC, you shoulda raised a stink about it. If you have a problem, the dealership has to try to remedy it for you. If they do not document it, how is Toyota Tech ever going to know about it. You should call the Toyota Experience Hotline at 1-800-331-4331
I also have this problem on mine. I thought it was the wind, as it was very windy the day I heard it. It sounded like a high pitched whistle on the passnger side window. Let us know what the Dealer says......
I have an 05 tacoma bone stock that does it at 90 every single time. It also does it at lower speeds when wind blows from the side. It is really disturbing. I am taking my truck in for it's second oil change this weekend and I plan to reproduce it for the service techs.

I thought it was just mine. I do have the roof rack though...so maybe it's that.
I described it as a kazooo or harmonica sound. Yours is better. It does it at 65-70 if headwind or passing a big truck. NOT ONLY WHEN SPEEDING!
None of you mentioned if you had a skid plate up front! It was mentioned previously that the skid plate vibrates through the body making the origin of the noise very difficult to pin point. Mine souded like I was driving over rumble strips on the pavement over 75 mph and cross wind...

I have the double cab, off road with trailer package -- nothing else. Noise is just as described in original post and I get it under the same conditions as described in that post.
