TacomaGeneral discussion forum for the 2005 and later Toyota Tacoma.
This is a discussion thread titled "California or Mexico Built?", within the Tacoma forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Talking to the local dealer yesterday, I mentioned to them that there are two plants (California and Mexico) where the Taco is built. The Sales Manager (who's been at this large dealer for many years) said they have never seen one from Mexico, and he didn't believe that any built in Mexico where sold in the USA.
I know I've read a few posts on this board where guys have said they have a Mexico built Taco, so what's the scoop on this?
That salesman does not know what he's talking about. Tacomas are built in both california and mexico plants and some of the ones built in mexico do get sold in the USA!

Your VIN will start with a "3" if it was made in Mexico. You can also search your VIN at www.carfax.com
Don't blame any of you guys, for being skeptical about almost ANYTHING built in Mexico.
My wife HAD to have, one of those little VW bugs (back in '01) and it was the WORST vehicle purchase we've ever made! Long story short, we sold it, one year later, with only 9800 miles on it!
There were MANY small little things, which just weren't built correctly (or at the least, put together properly), with little or no forethought, about taking at least a little pride in workmanship. Even less, with QUALITY CONTROL... obviously! The worst one became a class action law suit a few years later, as the motor mounts of the electric windows, were made from "PLASTIC" and in very short order, they'd break causing the motor and window to drop down into the bottom of the door!
Unfortunately, I wouldn't expect much different, from any other auto being built (not designed) in Mexico. That's NOT to say, Toyota, wouldn't be on top of it ASAP, if that "were" the case though.
Just my 2 cents worth... .

I'm selling my Jetta but more due to incompetent dealers than mexi build quality. VW's QC is pathetic no matter where the car is assembled, Germany or Mexico.
My only reason for preference of a Cali built is to pay American workers, I don't think QC is better or worse.
