Are there any 05 Taco owners that have actually had a fix performed for the rear leaf problem? Mine rattle and squeak badly and it's driving me crazy! I know some dealers have greased them but that seems like a temp fix. Anyone had a permanent fix done? I know somewhere I read of a possible bulletin or campaign of some sort coming out soon...???
I picked my truck up from the dealer yesterday and after having my truck for 8 hours the only thing they had done was the parking brake recall...wooptie do. So I get there and they send out the tech that looked all of 16yrs old. 5 minutes later come back and say they can't find the prob. The service writer goes out and looks. The prick comes back in and says "we took the receiver hitch out and the noise is much quieter now." WTF!!! By now I am so ticked off. So I say why the hell would I bring my truck in for a noisy receiver hitch? He starts telling me that he's been a service tech for 35 years and bla bla bla then gets a cell phone call and walks out the room. Oh and I must mention that they didn't even take the truck out on the road! Even after me telling them you hear the noise going over bumps and road imperfections! I told them 5 times it was the leafs. I hate when they act like just because I'm a skirt that I know nothing about my truck. Needless to say I left very unhappy and my truck sounds like a piece of junk still!
By the way, just for kicks I took the receiver hitch out for my 30 minute drive home and it had no effect on the noise whatsoever!

Sorry but this is a little off the subject, but how loud is the leaf rattle? Can u hear it with the windows up? And does it do it all the time or just on ruff roads?
I had the noise too. Mine would do it getting in and out of the truck at the worst of it.
My dealer did the grease, they also cleaned road debris out of the springs. My noise has been gone for 2000 miles now.
But, the Service manager at my garage told me that it is a well documented problem, if my noise came back they would replace springs etc to fix it.
Stay on them. Some service people will take advantage of skirts as I found with all three of my daughters and their vehicles. You can get them to do it. Take it back in, don't quit, thats what they are trying to make you do. Arguing with them may not help, but repeated appointments (ensure they give you the paperwork. It will be useful if you end up needing to go to the General Manager or the area rep). Probably in one or two visits you can make the prick earn his paycheck, and more importantly fix your truck!
Good luck!

Thanks for the responses. This is the 2nd time I've taken it in for this problem. First dealer tried to say my Flowmaster was rattling... I will be taking it back in next week. I just hate the inconvenience of not having a vehicle. Oh well.

The noise is quite loud. It's very embarassing driving around in a nice clean new truck and it rattles and creaks like crazy. Like mikegray I get noise getting in/out the truck. It's more like a creaking/squeaking then. I get the rattling (clearly metal against metal) over any road imperfection no matter how small. Parking lots, speed bumps even cause the noise, and yes I can hear it with the windows up.

I've had mine in three or four times now - I've lost count. This last time they just said they don't hear it but lubed it anyway. I told them of the rumored TSB and they said let's just wait and see if one is issued and we'll take care of it then. They have no interest in finding the problem or solution themselves. Mine is also that metal on metal squeek or clinking noise over any little bump at road speeds over 5-10mph.
Mine squeeks and is quite noticeable. I'm not complaining but I really don't think it should sound like that. I really notice it because I have real sensitive hearing, used to set up sound for bands and all. . .
The dealer said the flowmaster was rattling? OMG. tell him no, i think its the beer can rattling in your skull. . .
Well, mine does it too. Squeaks loudly when I get in and out, had a 69 Chevy truck that didnt make a sound getting in and out... Hmmm. Perhaps they will say mine has been caused by off roading but wait!, It's an Off Road TRD truck, for funks sake!!! The TSB had better be forthcoming, I'd hate to hear what it sounds like after 100,000 miles
But I still love this truck

As for the squeaking getting in and out, I had that, and it started one day all of a sudden. It was the rear leaf spring shackles (not the bushings, which is where the leaf springs are mounted, but the clamp like shackles in front of and behind the wheel). I soaked them with white lithium grease spray about 3000 miles ago, and they've been quiet ever since. I also get that metal sound when going over some bumps, but I've always considered that kind of normal. It's just the nature of leaf springs that they will make some kind of noise. If it gets to be so loud that I no longer consider it normal, I'll take the truck in for service.
Younger Toyota said they fixed mine last time by greasing the bushings. I told them I would see them again in 2 weeks for them to fix it again. I HATE going to the dealer, seems like they never hardly fix what it was there for.
Same here, my dealer said they didnt here anything out of ordinary, BS I say, I jumped up and down on the bumper and he said the CLANKing or leafsprings banging together waz normal, again I say BS and they will see me again soon.

Must be some kind of leaf spring virus going around.....my right side just started that little squeaking thing too. I need an I.V. bag with some lubricant to keep a constant drip going to it.
Had the same problem with mine. Started at about 8000 Km. My dealer's first solution was to replace them right off the hop. My dealer has replaced the springs on about 6 trucks.
They didn't even try to grease them. Insist on having them replaced. Been fine since.
