Default Stereo Wiring Question??

Hello, I'm sort of new here. I've been around a while but I mostly read. I've decided to upgrade the stereo in my 05 now that the new dash kits are out. I have the whole thing hooked up and running, but I have some extra wires that I'm not sure what they do, and I was hoping to get some help.

Has anyone written down and figured out all the wires that link up to the radio...I have the base factory stereo/cd. If so could you please post them.

There were three plugs connected to the back of the radio. The first plug had the front speakers, the power and the gound wires. There was a small green wire in this block that I'm not sure what it does...maybe the dimmer (which is one of the wires I'm looking for). The next plug contained the rear speakers and another small wire that I'm also not sure what it does.

The last plug is a mystery to me. It contains three small wires, and I'm not sure what they do. My system runs fine with out them, but I would like to make sure that I'm not missing or overlooking something important.

I bought a new wiring harness so that I didn't have to cut or splice any of the factory wires. You plug in the new wiring harness to the factory wiring harness, then the new wiring harness wires are connected to your new stereo's wiring harness. Make any sense?

And that last plug, I just left it hanging there with the new head unit installed. The last plug isn't being used anymore now.

The wiring kit makes since but it still does answer the question of what do all of the wires do. Especially that third plug. I left it hanging also but I would like to know what it is for.

I would still also like to know which wire controls the dimmer.

I'm not exactly sure on the Tacoma, but on the last 3 decks I installed in the past 2 weeks had the orange wire labeled as dimmer.

The third plug is probably for the steering wheel audio controls. I'm surprised Toyota prewired them in Tacomas since not too many have them. Sequoias and 4Runners have them prewired already so it's a possibility.

Wire Color Function / Connection
Yellow = 12 Volt Battery / Constant (12V+)
Red = 12 Volt Ignition / Switched (12V+)
Blue = Power Antenna
Blue/White = Remote Turn on (12V+)
Orange = Illumination / Dimmer
Black = Chassis Ground (12V-)
White = Left Front Positive (LF+)
White/Black = Left Front Negative (LF-)
Gray = Right Front Positive (RF+)
Gray/Black = Right Front Negative (RF-)
Green = Left Rear Positive (LR+)
Green/Black = Left Rear Negative (LR-)
Violet = Right Rear Positive (RR+)
Violet/Black = Right Rear Negative (RR-)

I have used a voltmeter to confirm that the third plug is the steering wheel controls. The color code for the 3 wires are:
1-Purple w/ White stripe
2-White w/ Red stripe
3-White w/ Black stripe
I had my deck (Pioneer AVIC-D3) "professionally" installed and they cut the plug off for the steering wheel controls. I am trying to install PAC SWI-PS steering wheel controller and unfortunately, the instructions show the connections to the plug, not the wires themselves. The instructions list plug pinout with the plug release facing up and the numbering as follows:
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10
11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20
I am trying to find out which colored wire is connected to pins 6, 7 and 8. If someone is working with their stereo and could confirm the pin out for me that would be fantastic!

6-White w/ Red stripe
7-Purple w/ White stripe

Cool, that answers my question too - I put in my new Pioneer AVIC D3 last weekend and I also wondered what that third plug was for. I just left it hanging and everything works fine, which now makes sense because I don't have steering wheel controls anyway.
