TacomaGeneral discussion forum for the 2005 and later Toyota Tacoma.
This is a discussion thread titled "Dual Batteries", within the Tacoma forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Finally got around to uploading some pics of my dual battery install (bad camera phone pics). They fit in the stock location (tight but fit well). Install was pretty straight forward but I can't stress enough good wiring. This is probably my second favortie mod so far, second only to my fridge.
Check out my gallery for the pics!

Ok call me dumb but why would you need dual 6V batteries in your truck... unless of course you have a massive stereo or you do a ton of winching. Dual 6V doesn't give you more power it only gives you longer run time should you want to leave your lights and stuff on without the engine running. Just curious...

She does say that she has a fridge, thats my guess. Optimas are the best out there. Although I'll continue to run one battery (stock) till it dies. Good chance I won't own the truck that long LOL

They're both 12 volt batteries. Since she has an isolator I'm guessing that the yellow top powers all the accesories when the key is off.
Tacomagirl, where did you get the isolator from and how much if you don't mind me asking?
That`s some nice work
I saw this in a magazine set up just like yours
It`s good piece of mind to know your truck will start when you want it to
I need to do this
thanks

Yes they are both 12V. And yes my fridge (which stays plugged 24/7), stereo (very very modest one) and soon to be an in-cab inverter and some lights if the !$%& light bar ever comes in all run off the yellow top. A few other things too further down the road. I still need to hide some wiring that I am redoing on the amp and fridge but all in all I am very pleased with this mod.
I highly recommend the yellow top. Before doing duals I had just one yellow top and the fridge ran constantly. Only had problems if the truck sat for 3 days or more straight.

Thank you. Yes they did a dual setup similiar to this in the Maya Hunter Tacoma. It's what confirmed my belief that two batteries could fit in the stock location. Yes the piece of mind is great. I've already let my truck sit for over 4 days with the fridge running and my baby started right up. What a proud moment! Haha.

mikeg281 - sorry I just saw your question. I used a Surepower 130 amp isolator. I bought it online because it was easier for I think $60 shipped. I know Napa Auto used to sell them in stores, and if you contact Surepower via their website they will tell you what stores sell them near you locally.

Ok there have been numerous requests, so here are some pics of my fridge finally. It is a Waeco CF35 fridge/freezer. I also have the insulation cover which works very well IMO. It is 33 quarts and easily holds a case of beer and then some! Actually it holds plenty of camping, beach party and tournament food, drinks or even ice cream.

Nice dually setup! I really like how you got it all to fit in the stock location.
For an isolator, I'm a big fan of the Hellroaring systems. The are true isolators (not mere combiners that most setups use) and can be set up with diagnostics to let you know that the second battery is getting a trickle charge to keep it fresh.
Even if you dont have extra current needs, all it takes is that one time when your main battery gets drained and all you have to do is flick a switch and you are up and running again to make it all worth your while instaed of having to waive someone down to give you a jump. Mine has saved me several times already.

Thank you. Yes I agree Hellroaring has great products as well. I have heard nothing but great things about them. I've seen some very clean installs with them too. You can't go wrong with them that's for sure. Would love to see some pics of your setup.
That's one sweet truck you have there BTW!
