Default Anyone remove hydrocarbon filter?

I have read that there is some sort of hydrocarbon filter behind the air filter. It is pin doweled into the airbox. It is supposed to be very restrictive. You can drill out the pins and remove the filter. Has anyone done this? What are the pros and cons of doing so?

Trueflow evidently isn't going to do an intake kit. They don't want to redo the entire filter box.

Adopted on the 2003 Models - carbon filter for adsorbing HC (hydrocarbons) in the air cleaner cap

I take it the 05 Taco has an air mass sensor so doing this will not require any computer tweaks?

See any difference in how it ran or gas mileage, etc after removing this restrictive piece?

Does the air filter still seat as designed if this restrictive piece is removed?

If you pop off the air cleaner lid and remove the filter you should see what looks like a white colored, cloth piece that sits in the intake manifold inlet. I remember seeing this, and I know it would not pop out if pulled on.

Yanked mine at about 3000 miles. Popped a K&N in at the same time so I cannot say forsure if it made a difference or not by just pulling the carbon filter. It definately made a difference but I'm assuming it was the K&N helping that.

We have pretty strict emission laws here where I live, and I vehicles have to be tested every two years. Will removing it effect what comes out of the tailpipe?
