    Default Total Chaos UCAs???

    I just put TW SAWs on my '05 Tacoma. I don't do much offroading other than the occasional camping trip down a gnarly fire road. Does it make sense to put the Total Chaos UCAs on my truck? They are kind of expensive and not sure how much bang for the buck they are going to provide.

    Unless you plan on racing through the desert it's a total waste of money. Even most of the hardcore wheelers at TTORA will tell you the same. Save your money. They provide no real benefit to even the hardest of wheelers, and they provide no difference in feel or performance on road.

    I disagree. While its true that most folks won't notice a difference, the uiniball style of ball joint is more stout than the stock ball joints and is much easier to service (if needed) once installed. By itself an UCA setup will not make your truck a desert racer, but it can provide added droop (with the right coilovers) for a bit more articulation.

    Is it worth it? If $$ is tight, I'd wait to see if your wheelin style/practice leads to early upper ball joint wear. They are easy to install provided you have access to a decent BJ press.

    Thanks for the feedback guys. I won't be doing them anytime soon. My offroading consists of pulling into the driveway! Unless you count the thousands of trails we ride on our new CRF250s around here.

    uniball > balljoint... if you have steep angles if roll a uniball upper arm..

    To add a lil to that...you can also crank your aftermarket coil over shocks higher with the TC a arms. You cant go over 2.5 inches with the stock a-arm ..and with the TC a-arms you can go up to 3.5 inches.

    Mods done
    -Donahoe coil over shocks

    Planed Mods:
    -Cat back exhust
    -Deaver leaf springs and Bilstine 5150 shocks in back
    -32 inch tires (dont know what kind yet)
    -Billet grill
    -Install my Alpine IVA-D300 indash DVD player once a dash kit comes out along with some new speakers subs and amps

    Your CV's would be at a pretty extreme angle though, but I guess prerunners don't have CV's now do they. 4x4's may want to use caution though, or you may end up doing some damage.

    Also with coilovers the higher you crank them the harsher the ride which in turn really defeats the purpose of having them in the first place. You'd might as well buy a spacer lift if your coils are cranked to 3.5". I'm assuming though that no 05 have long travel coilovers yet, and we're talking about your standard D-hoe, saws, or other setup.

    Mine are the 2.0 SAWs and all I did was level the truck. No higher. Looks great.

    So what about dr coilovers with tc arms? I'm putting on a 1" diff drop kit and would love to crank my dr coilovers up a little more for some more clearance on my 305's, would tc arms let me do this? I don't really want to deal with a body lift.

    There are 2 kinds of Donohoes- normal and extended travel (not to be confused with long travel) that are made for uniball UCA's. While you could krank them up, you will suffer a harsher ride on the street and may fatigue the spring a bit sooner. They come preset from the factory at what DR consideres the optimal setting, but its your rig.

    As for BL's a 1 or even 2 inch BL are not that bad of a decision, provided you keep up on the bolt torque
