woa. Did you mod the hood scoop itself to allow air to the filter? Imagine it would suck water in a downpour... Or is it just pulling air from inside engine compartment? Bet it does make sweet music....
the filter just sits under the hood in the path of the scoop...If you shine a flashlight into the scoop u can see it..Plus I dont drive my truck in the rain it just goes out on nice days..Even if i did its really far enough in there that the water wouldnt effect it all that much but it is still in the path of air comming in. All i did to the scoop was I opened it up a while back

why should I replace it...works fine..like I said i am gonna glass it all in so there are no seams or do something of that nature...sand it all down nice and smooth and paint it...then it will look like a legit intake tube

Man I cliked on the thread and i was like hott damn that truck looks like mine, even your front yard looks like mine...LOL well I hope it works out for you bro, I am gonna get a good tune in and then ill hopefully take it to the dyno to see what kinda gains I have made. A
Also about the water, yes it could get on there which I don't think it would but could, what can be done is put that Filter Condom on from K&N and that should help the water. Also about heat, it seems that the heat does not have to much of an effect on the PVC, but if you put some heat wrap around the PVC then added a heat shield around the bottom side of the filter that would for sure help with any heat probs

PVC releases toxic gases when it gets to temps like it can (read: WILL) under the hood. There is a reason why they dont use PVC in hot areas...
Looks awesome! It's great somebody's making good use of the hood scoop.
As for the whole toxic fumes part... not so cool... but it really doesn't seem like a huge problem seeing as it's outside the cab and the air that enters the intake will never enter the cab... I just hope it won't do anything bad to the engine.
Anybody know what type of material K&N uses on their intakes? Or the stock intakes? Or the Volant intake?

still think you should get an K&N filter... that filter you got there looks like it is not oiled... without oil, you are not trapping all the dirt particles... and you run the risk of gumming up your TB and injesting dirt.
AJusa.com carries alot of diff. K&N filters and sizes.
You can use electrical conduit and then paint it with that high heat spray paint from your local home improvement center, it will stand up to the heat. I ran it for my intercooler piping in my Supra and it worked like a champ. If anyone knows anything about the 7MGTE, they know that if it can stand up to that kind of heat, a 4.0l aluminum V6 Tacoma motor is nothing.
