    Default Gas cap lock??

Is there one for the 05 Tacoma on the market? At $3.25 a gallon for gas would be nice to lock it up!

    Thanks.

Do a search for the Stant website. They do have a locking cap that fits. Oh by the way...........good luck finding one in stores. I'm headed to an Autozone tomorrow at 4:00 PM on the managers promise that one wil be coming in on the truck.

The one I had was Stant Model #11509, I found it at pepboys and seen it at my local walmart so it should be available. But I have stopped using it because it literally fell apart on me. I went to unlock it one day and the whole lock came off leaving me with a stuck cap. Fortunately I was able to push the lock back and applying forward pressure to unlock it, take it off, and get rid of it. Now im back to using the stock cap and am still looking for a better solution. Anyone know of anyone that makes a lockable door?

    Default The solution:

I really like having a locking gas door on my '02 Tundra.
Which was wined about on this site as inconveinant.
Which Toyota took away on later models.
You see them on older trucks.
A locking gas cap costs $20-30.
    And needs a separate key.
I think we need to badger Toyota to do a better job on designs and content on trucks.

Model 11509? I looked it up on the Stant website in their online catalog and it listed #10509 as the correct locking gas cap. What the heck was the other one?

the 10509 is just a boxed version (comes in a box) from what i was told. #11509 is the same thing just its plastic wrapped with a card at the back. Those are the 2 models that work on the 05 Tacoma, this is coming from what Stant told me. ANd I agree with you RichR, WHy couldnt they just make the ones that pop open from the little lever inside the cab (like my dads 03 Sequoia)? doesnt have to be something thats keyed but that would provide more security and peace of mind over what they currently put.

All vehicles after about '97, do, although that's not the primary purpose - it's actually to prevent spillage during a rollover, and to maintain pressure at the filler neck in the event of a cap leak. Positive pressure in the tank is required in OBD-II, although the mechanism also has to have a bleed hole, simply so pressure leak-down can be detected and throw a code in the event of no cap -- so basically they have to make a system that could maintain pressure in the tank without a cap, then break it just a little so it will throw a code if you have no cap - gotta love EPA regulations. Despite its actual purpose, it does make it damn-near impossible to syphon gas from the tank, making locking caps and doors more or less a useless PITA. It's still possible, but it ain't easy, and the common gas-thief with a single piece of hose shouldn't be able to pull it off.

I got a locking cap from Stant (directly). At this moment they are very had to find in car shops I hear.

You can buy a Stant 10509 lockinf fuel cap directly from Stant using a MasterCard or Visa. Cost is $21.91 each plus there is a $5.00 per order shipping and handling charge. Contact Stant customer service at 800-822-3121 extension 330 to place your order.

Good point - I just try not to piss people off or park in bad neighborhoods, but I guess a locking cap is probably safest
