TacomaGeneral discussion forum for the 2005 and later Toyota Tacoma.
This is a discussion thread titled "Battery and Alternator, tow/non tow package", within the Tacoma forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
What is the amp output of the stock battery and alternator compared to the ones that come with the tow package. I know the tow package gets you a 130 amp alternator, but what is that compared to with the other Tacoma's? Also the specs with the tow package say you get a heavy duty battery. Whats that? How many more cold cranking amps are we talking with the tow package compared to say a stock 4x4 battery without the tow package?
Bump. 43 looks and no one knows. Could someone with the tow package check their battery. It should say right on it. Mine says 710 Cold cranking amps. Is that the standard or heavy duty battery? My spec sheet that came with the truck says heavy duty and alternator but I don't have the tow package so I'm a little confused as to what I have, or why I would get the heavy duty battery and alternator. Maybe it has something to do with Canadian cold weather specs or something like that. I would really appreciate any help.
If I still had my stock battery I'd check for you but I don't. Sorry. I am curious to know as well if you Canadians are getting the upgrade as standard...

I also have a 710 CCA battery in my NO tow package, TRD OR, AC, 6 speed manual and I'm in CA(California). Besides the tranny cooler (if automatic) and oil cooler (where is this mounted by the way?) I think Toyota may be blowing smoke on the alternator/battery upgrade thing with the tow package.
Anyone without the tow package know what size alternator they have?

Well mines 130 amps, and I don't have the tow package. If you guys have that as well this is very misleading by Toyota, which is why I wondered about it in the first place. It's starting to look to me as it's only an upgrade over a bone stock 2wd. Tricky, tricky Toyota.
Did the standard alternator use to be 90 amp (previous model years)?
