Default OK, test drove an 06'DC 4X4 TRD today...WOW! Now I am really confused... HELP!!!

OK...Just when I thought I had it all figured out Man, these Tacos are REALLY nice. I posted a thread the other day and asked for opinions about whether I should get a Taco or 4Runner. Well, I thought the 4Runner was going to win, but, after test driving a Taco DC 4X4 w/TRD (stickered $31,419), I must admit that I fell in love with it. Now I am really confused. THis is sooooo hard because I love both vehicles. I can get a 06' 4Runner for about $4,500 more which includes Sport pckge, V-8, JBL, and Sunroof ($33,200-$500 rebate=$32,700)Original sticker is $36,386...The sticker for the Taco is $31,419 and can buy it for $28,500 ($350 over invoice). So, about $4200 difference give or take. Looking at the big picture and knowing that I plan on keeping the vehicle for a long time, how can I look at this objectively. I do quite a bit of traveling and am in the National Guard part time as well. So, either vehicle can haul my Army equipment and travel well with decent gas mileage. This is the hardest decision I have ever made. I just like both of them so dang much. I really didnt think the Taco would exceed my expectations so greatly. Sorry, just really confused.

SUVs are for girls, trucks are for guys--lol. Seriously get the Taco. It has more flexibility and I think more tow capacity. It has excellent interior room and you have the bed to pile stuff you don't want inside the vehicle. Really, a truck is so different from an SUV I don't see your confusion. My wife gets the Liberty 4X4 with off road package and performace package and tow package and all that and I get the Tacoma DC TRD OR. She would have gotten the 4Runner but for the serious difference in price between the Liberty and the Toyota. A DC truck is something of a hybrid, the room of a SUV and the bed of a truck and the feel of a truck so I guess I see how you are confused but don't be. I think the Taco will get better mileage also than the V84Runner and besides the Tacoma is meteor proof! Good luck and be safe.

Thanks for the advice. I have to admit, I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY liked the Taco this evening. Man, the dealer even washed/waxed it before I got there just to test drive it. It only had 7 miles on it! Anyway, its a DC TRD OR with just about every option available it seems...$31,400 sticker. Anyway, it doesnt have as "nice" a ride as the 4Runner, but doesnt lack much to being equal. It does have rear drums compared to disc brakes on the Runner...but, thats not necessarily that big of a deal. 4Runner has power seats and the Taco not. And, the 4Runner seems a little more refined...maybe because its built in Japan? But, these few shortcomings really are minor in comparison and I will have to say that the Taco is the nicest Truck I think I have ever driven(compact or full-size)! Maybe I can take the $4500 in savings (over the 4Runner) and get some Donahoes for the front, bilsteint 5100s for the rear and some new meat

I don't understand why you are having so much trouble deciding. Do you want a truck or a station wagon?
You seem to be looking for reasons not to buy the Tacoma. What do you like about the 4Runner?
Good luck, I know it's a hard decision.

I agree, and of course a truck, especially an off road truck is going to ride stiffer than a station wagon. Is the 4Runner maroon?---will the guy with the maroon station wagon please come to the desk.--lol

You said it had everything, the Tacoma that is, does it have TRAC, VSC, DAC, HAC, if not it don't got everything. Does it have the tow package?

Have y'all noticed these newer car type SUVs (which the 4Runner really is not) are more and more mini van looking and others look exactly like a station wagon? If you called them a station wagon they would not sell so you call the a SUV---most of them are chunky mini vans and expensive station wagons, the new RAV is an example.

Yes, the Tacoma has TRAC, VSC, DAC, HAC, TOW PCKAGE, UPGRADED STEREO. It is also black, which is my favorite color. Of course, I realize its not as refined as the 4Runner (but close) and will ride a little harsher, but thats ok with me. I am sure they both would provide me with a long life and plenty of problem free miles. Its just so dang hard because they both have pros and cons and I love both of them. Dang Toyota...why do you have to build such great vehicles

Default Simple...

From one military guy to another...buy the DC. It does everything the SUV does plus haul better. If you want to protect stuff in the back, buy a tonneau. You can't haul 2x4's or refigerators with an SUV! Don't have to worry about hauling your filthy field gear...just hose out the bed...try that with a 4-Runner. Better hang with the HUMVEE's and M1's too (hee hee). No brainer. Man up and buy the DC. I'm spent!

Buy the truck and use the $4500 difference to buy a toy that requires you to have a truck to haul it around in.

I wouldn't quite call the Runner a station wagon. It's a great SUV. I of course like the Tacoma but that's because I like the versatility of a truck.

Default No doubt the taco

I drove a LTD V8 4 runner. They are nice, but I really like the Taco better . . .

SUVs are glorified station wagons . . .

Take an old family photo and scan in the station wagon then stretch it a little with photshop . . . voila! You have a 4 runner!!
