I just got a new '06 Tacoma DC (Indigo Ink.) I've had it about a month, and I already have about 1200 on it.
But the real story is the '88 4-Runner that I just gave back to my dad. It WAS what I was driving until I got the new one. It currently has over 307,000 on it! The only thing I ever did to it was regular oil changes and a new clutch. My dad bought it used and drove it across town every day for several years. I think he put a new alternator in at one point, but that was the extent of the major work that either of us did to it.
Re: Bragging rights for most Toy truck miles driven 775,000
I'm running a 95.5 taco access cab 4wd with almost 238k.. origional motor, origional clutch, no drive line issues to speak of ever.. This is a rust belt PA truck that has never seen a roof over it's head. 3k oil changes, grease the driveline, synthetic in the trans, diffs and transfer case at 100k. Still gets over 20 mpg if i keep it around 70 mph on the hwy.. This has been the best vehicle I have ever owned.. Burns less than a 1/4 quart in 3k..
Re: Bragging rights for most Toy truck miles driven 775,000
Congratulations on the new Tacoma,, those Radiant Red ones are beauties, I sometimes see them coming out of the Toyota Tech Center here in Ann Arbor, MI.
Maybe I can have bragging right for LEAST miles driven now...on the '06 Tacoma
only 160 odometer miles in 2 & a half months, What???
I'm saving the two-wheel-drive Tacoma for spring, summer, fall driving *expecting 20,000 miles annual driving on the Silver Streak Taco.
Too many rust buckets in my past, and I like looking at a NEW truck!!!

My NEW 2006 only 114 total miles
average that all together and that's 5,555.7 miles per year for 20 years

Re: Bragging rights for most Toy truck miles driven 775,000
I had a 90 Toyota truck that I purchased new (you can see a pic of it if you click on the little camera thing for my profile). It had 140k miles on it when I traded it in on a 98 Tacoma. In fact the picture was taken not too long before I got rid of it. It was running great, but didn't have AC. My 98 Taco was a standard 2wd, I only put about 40k miles on it and then I made the worst automobile mistake of my life by trading it in on a chevy. The chevy spent more time at the dealership than it did on the road. Now I have a 06 Tacoma and only have 1200 miles on it...

Re: Bragging rights for most Toy truck miles driven 775,000
Friend from long-ago owned a late 70's Hi-Lux. Drove it hard all over the Riverside, CA area daily. Last I heard, he had over 500K on it. Then, I thought it was a strange, oddball vehicle, snuck over from Japan. Little did I know...
Re: Bragging rights for most Toy truck miles driven 775,000
I see this is an old forum, but I thought I'd share.
I had a disheartening discussion with my mechanic today because he indicated that my truck might not get through the CA smog this time and it might be time to "put the old girl down". He said that 350,000 miles was about the limit for these trucks. So, I thought I'd surf and find out if that was really true or, according to local lore that "those trucks last forever", if I should push it a little further. My benchmark was a guy in my church about 10 years who had an old Toyota truck with ~350K on it and I was impressed. That seemed like a lot of miles at the time, but that was 10 years ago, and 10 years later (now) my Toyota truck has 323K+ on it, plus some change. I say + because the odometer broke about two years ago. I'd have to check my log book for sure -- it's in the truck and it's late and I'm lazy and I'm not gonna tonight. I haven't driven it much in the last two years, but my son has, as an reliable emergency backup to his newer
P.O.S. Saab. I'm sure the truck is well over 350K.
Actually, I was very surprised to not find anybody on this board in the 300K+ club because I thought it was quite common, at least out here in California.
Regarding the 775K bragging rights -- good for you.
Regarding Toyotas in general, my story goes back to 1974 when I bought a 1972 Hilux for $900, drove it for 2 years until it started rusting out, then sold it for $1200. Thx. Pres. Carter. Don't remember how many miles I put on it, so I won't count them.
Then I got married and we bought a 1981 Toyota Tercel -- 186K, then the wife totalled it.
Then I bought the 1986 Toyota Hilux P/U, which has 323k+ on it.
Then we bought a 1990 Toyota Camry which had 197K on it when it was stolen.
Then we bought a used 1998 Toyota Camry that had about 203K when I got rear-ended and it got totalled.
Then we bought a used 2000 Avalon that has 160K or so (again, too lazy to look).
Never thought about it much, but this all adds up to a cool million: 1,070,000 or so.
Re: Bragging rights for most Toy truck miles driven 775,000
Heh,
My dad had a Camry, and the odometer broke at 220k, he kept driving it for 5 more years. I'm guessing it went to about 320k before it just up and died one day. I'm guessing distributor trouble.
Anyway, they bought a brand new Corolla for my sister. That's got 10k on it in like 6 months.
Re: Bragging rights for most Toy truck miles driven 775,000
Congratulations on the million plus miles driven in Toyota vehicles, that's a lot of experience driving Toyotas. I hope to reach that goal before the end of my lifetime Toyota pickup truck driving career.
Yeah, I would think there must be more 300k+ miles club members (on one vehicle) here on Tundra Solutions, but only have seen a few (the guy with the airline luggage courier service, sorry forgot the name). And California should have many older, high mileage Toyota trucks, with not much salt covered roads, and consequential rusting of steel, in that area of the USA.
My speedometer on my '87 Toyota 4x4 pickup gave up the ghost at about 238k miles (I still have the speed/odometer with those numbers on it). I sold it to a brother and he drove it to an estimated 300,000 miles before it blew a head gasket (also badly rusted body) so he sold it for parts to a mechanic.
I wonder why your mechanic said your vehicle won't pass California smog testing? Anything fixable or new parts that could pass the test?
BTW, my '06 Tacoma has 46k+ miles on it now, with no problems except the air bag light came on, due to electrical short in the steering wheel, and resulting blowing of the air bag CPU (replaced and fixed under warranty). The gas mileage is very good, aroung 19 city and 26 highway with the very reliable, long lasting 2.7L four cylinder engine.
