I've searched extensively for pics of a Taco with a sunroof. There are some teasing threads out there - but no pics I can find. If ANYONE has a sunroof - I'd love pics. Particularly of the interior and what they do with the overhead console.
I'm getting a V6 off road access cab and am very interested in the aftermarket Webasto sunroof. Most of the reviews I've found have been positive - please chime in if you've had a bad experience. I think there is a factory option for the sunroof in the double cab (could be wrong though). If it's factory installed do they have a unique console piece that doesn't have the sunglasses holder? Do the aftermarket guys just buy that console piece or do they have to fabricate something? I really don't want something that will look like crap - but I love a sunroof.

Hey,
The Webasto sunroofs are an outstanding mod to your truck. I've had a Hollandia 749(New # is 790.) installed in my Tundra over 3+ years and have NO leaks or trbls. The interior looks just like factory and color matched as well...
The only thing that changed was the location of the middle light towards the back window a little.....
Have an authorized dealer install it and you'll have no worries..... OK DEALERS
Another sunroof installer might be Classic Soft Trim/ CST
Here's a few pix of a Webasto 710 s/r in a Tacoma.... '05 TACO
This will be a mod of mine when the $$ is right and when I finish my other list of mods. I have heard nothing but great things from Webastos and most shops will offer a lifetime warranty on install against leaks.

Thanks all for the input. I've already spoken with both of the dealers in my area. Everything seems above board. They are going to let me know next time they do a Tacoma so I can see one first. I'm mostly worried about the mods to the overhead console. The Webasto pics aren't clear enough for me to see. I'm hoping someone can take a good shot for me.
I can save $150 by going direct to one of the places I've spoke with, but I might do it through the dealer (they use one of these places and take a $150 cut). I figure that way if it's leaking like a sieve in 2yrs I can just go to the dealer and make him take care of it. Otherwise I can envision a situation where the Webasto folks say it's somthing else and the Toyota folks say its the sunroof.
I can find very few people who actually have one who have anything negative to say. There's not much out there as far as reviews - I'd love to hear more from some people who have had this done.
Those pics from Webasto look like the sunroof either goes between the the overhead console and the dome light, or they move the dome light back. It doesn't look like the console is touched. I had my console off yesterday to perform a modification to my map lights, there are no wires between the console and the dome light, at least to an unmodified console .

Hey JL...
They didn't touch my console which looks a lot like the Tacomas. They will most likely move the dome light back a little and not touch the console.
If you're getting the work done at a dealer's vendor, then why don't you just by-pass them and save the $150.00... All they'll do is point you toward the s/r installer if you have a problem.... You want to find an installer that will give you a good warranty...... If the dealer is using them, that would be enough for me.....
If you were thinking of doing any sound deadener later on, you might do the roof when they have everything down.....
My Tacoma will have the TRD Off Road Pkg. This comes with a longer overhead console than is pictured. It will HAVE to be modified to fit. That's what worries me most. Basically it's the same as the one in the pic at Webasco, except where that one ends there's a sunglasses case. I can't remember what the other consoles look like - if that's them then I'll bet they just replace it.
Do you think the sunroof place would put some soundproofing stuff in for me? I have no idea what that would cost.
JB - very glad to hear you've had a positive experience. Any problems with wind noise?
Well many of the Webasto units come with a lifetime warranty (read their site to see which ones). A good installer will give the same warranty on the install. Talk to the installers directly and take out the middle man (stealer) fee.

Hey,
You might research if the longer console can be swapped w/the shorter one.
Since they'll have the headliner out already, they can cover any space you need. If it's a go, then swap yours w/someone else's shorter console....
You can try the s/d two ways...
Ask if they can wait for you to do the s/d before they start the headliner replacement or see how much for their labor to install the s/d you buy....They might even do the s/d already....
When my s/r is wide open, it's quieter than you think. My driver's window is louder when it's open. When the s/r is closed and the sunscreen is open, is when I have the most wind noise. It's not bad but is present. When the sunscreen is closed it's pretty quiet. I play music anyway so it doesn't matter.
When you've finally done the install, you'll really be happy w/it.....
It's getting over them cutting your baby up that hurts a little....
Your wallet will be the only real casualty...
I need to talk to the installer again. Good thought that they might put the soundproofing in anyhow. I hadn't thought about trading overhead consoles out - I need to recheck and see if there are really two types.
Thanks for all the help. Still would love some pics of one that has been done. I will definitely share some when/if I do it - but that will be a little while.
if anyone has had the sunroof installed on their 05 tacoma please private message me with an approximate price and warranty info. thank you.

I have a X-Runner Rear "X" Brace for sale. I had a U-Haul hitch installed for towing the toys, no need for it anymore. Helped a lot with cornering, and ride stability before installing hitch. Will fit any 05-07 Tacoma.
