does anybody have a squeaky shifter boot?

When I am in fourth or sixth gear the leather boot on gear shifter is really noisy. It has gotten to the point that I can hear it over the music and it getting on my nerves. I know that it is the boot because when my hand is on the shifter it stops. However, I like to drive with two hands on the wheel and it is so annoying. Anybody have any ideas for a solution?

You are not alone. I have a 2007 Tacoma Regular Cab SR5 4X4 with the 5 speed and I am dealing with the same annoying sound. Sometimes it can be stopped by rotating the top of the boot under the shift knob, other days this does nothing. Holding it does stop it, but as you state, I also like to drive with 2 hands. Mine is worse in 3rd and 5th, and the colder the weather is, the worse it is. I trying to get info to see if the rubber boot from the model below mine would fit on the guess it shouldn't squeak like Benny Hill getting off a leather recliner.

Have you tried treating it with something like 303?

now that you mention it, it did used to squeek. i'd turn the ring at the knob like jmrc said and sometimes it worked, other times it didn't. hasnt squeeked in months and months though. i wonder if it's the weather.

Mine was doing that till I put some leather treatment on the boot. Squeak went away completely. It comes back about every 8 months or so and I have to put more leather treatment on it. 303 didn't work for me.

My 05 used to squeak like crazy. I think it was those damn armorall wipes which are great for getting the dust out of the cracks. It went away tho when I totalled the truck and got a new one. Haven't used anything other than a vacuum on the new one and no probs yet.
