Blown brake light fuse locks out tranny shifter. - Toyota Tundra Forums : Tundra Solutions Forum

I just wanted to tell you guys about what happened to me last night. To make a long story short I blew a my brake light fuse and didnt know it because MY BRAKE LIGHTS STILL WORKED. How ever I had no reverse lights or gear indicator light in my dash or blinkers. Here's the fun part. When you blow this fuse(1G1) on the drivers side by your feet your shifter locks up so you can't put the truck in gear ( Saftey Feature). There is an overide solution that is in page 321 of our books. The procedure is to (Insert key to lock position. Remove small plastic cap next to shifter. While depressing the parking bake push down the button that was under the cap. Start the truck the you can shift back into gear.) Last night I didnt know that I didnt have blinkers so I never thought I blew the fuse plus I was so confused as to what the hell happened I pretty much was in a pannic. After I overided the shifter I took it to the dealer they replaced the fuse and I'm good as new.

They blamed it on my after market reverse lights and reccamended that I put a 15 amp fuse in place of the 10 that is there.

thanks for the info, that could come in handy.

that would really piss me off if i blew a fuse and my tranny locked. my supra had a button next to the shifter you could press to bypass the break padal switch. its nice to know there is still a bypass.

Guess that fuse isn't really for the brake lights then ...

hey there iam new at this but i have the simular problem with my 03 tacoma 2.7L 5spd. as far as i know i still have reverse lights. i dont get why i dont have blinkers because the horn still works and the flashers will flash one time then burn out fuse # 24 HORN-HAZ. please help me i think it is some where in the switch but every thing else on the switch works?
