^ I wouldnt call stalling a car or truck violent shaking. If you experienced it you would understand.

I too thought it might have been operator error at first but then it kept on happening. It is indeed a violent shake that makes the whole truck shake and makes you feel like this is your first time driving stick. I have the 4cylinder and it does it to mine as well after sitting for about 24 hours.

It feels like the clutch is slipping. I dont know think it would be linkage. It feels like there is moisture getting into the bellhousing and causing it to slip. Then after it heats up a bit the moisture evaporates and the problem goes away. Who knows. Let us know how you make out.

I have the same problem with my access cab 2.7L 4x4 5spd. It's been on and off since I've had it and the dealer has never acknowledged that it has any problem, even though it'll shake pretty violently sometime. Let me know what you find out.

UMM do you know how to drive it.

Uhhm, did you read that Toyota has acknowledged this to be a problem? And that my dealer has replicated the problem on a brand new truck just yesterday? And he called it "horrible"?

I have been driving stick shifts for all of my life. Never owned an automatic. I used to do motorcycle racing, and those were not automatic, either. Until just last year, I have pulled a 6,000 pound boat up the ramp on a regular basis with a stick shift, and trying to do that while driving "retarded" would be a little bit of a problem. Yes, I do know how to drive a stick.

As somebody else has noted, if you would have ever experienced that shake, even sitting on the passenger seat, you would not have posted your reply. Believe me.

... or your are pulling out all retarded and getting mad wheel hop ....

And calling other people's driving "retarded", especially if you have no clue, is a bit ignorant, I would say and it does not show any knowledge nor respect.

You shouldnt get your panties in a wad buddy. Thats great you have been driving a stick for SOOOO long. How in the hell is anyone supposed to know how to reproduce it if they never have had it happen. It was a suggestion so have fun finding your issue with it.

3000, it's all fine here, everything is dry.

It's just the way you came across, I guess. Being called "retarded" is not the best way to start your day ....

And, btw, is your's a stick? If so, maybe you are the one who does not know how to drive it or how it's supposed to feel if you don't notice the chatter. (note the emphasis on "maybe", you might as well be one of the lucky ones without this problem).

In my truck, I can feel it almost always (have to look out for it), just very, very little. In everyday driving, it's maybe a 1 or 2 on a scale from 0-100, with 100 being after the truck sits for a day or two. And yes, the mechanic at my dealer was able to feel that also, even after I had driven 25 miles to get there (see my original post).

I've also only ever driven stick vehicles, and the clutch in my tacoma just feels off most of the time, its not always really bad it usually feels like its slipping slightly, and it vibrates when released most of the time, and im at about 17k miles. The clutch just doesnt have the solid feel of my last vehicles (89 4runner, 92 4unner, 05 wrx), hopefully there will be a fix to this problem soon.

Whew, was it getting hot in here?

Reminds me of when I had a dealership tech ride with me...the clutch chose the opportunity to operate perfectly normal, so I had nothing to show the guy. From his reaction, it was patently obvious that I was just another "stupid woman" complaining about nothing. Oh, well...

This clutch definitely feels inconsistent and the overall feel seems to fluctuate. I could probably set off a bomb inside my '86 pickup's clutch, and it wouldn't feel any different!

Update: this is very weird ...

I just called my dealership, and was told the service guy who was taking care of this issue no longer works there. I had just talked to him yesterday in the afternoon, and he had said that he will call me back today in the morning (waiting for the regional Toyota manager to give him a call).

I just hope that this did not happen because he was straight to me about Toyota acknowledging the problem, and also telling me that the other new truck with a stick they have also has this problem ....

I am on my way to the dealership. Need to talk to the manager!

Hey Steve. How did you make out with your problem? Did you get anywhere with the Service Manager?

Yes and no, I guess. I dropped off the truck and let it sit there over the weekend. Came back Monday morning. Took a test drive with the service manager and their lead mechanic.

The problem was bad that morning. They acknowledged it, and took the clutch apart. They replaced a few parts, adjusted tolerances to 1/2 of factory specs (so I was told). In regular driving (when the engine is warm), the clutch feels better than before now (really smooth), but the cold start chatter did not change at all.

I went back the next day. Now they told me to wait for a fix from Toyota ....

Did they say what might be causing the cold start chattering?

"Something is obviusly binding" was all I was able to get out of them. They said that they have raised the issue with Toyota, and that there is a regional Toyo Service Manager meeting this month, during which he will bring up the issue as well.

The service manager told me to talk to him again when I bring it in for the first oil change. (1.5K miles away).

I will give it maybe 6 or so months, and if by then there is no news on a solution, I will try to go through the lemon law to get the truck possibly replaced.

Schildi.

I do consider this as a step forward, as at least I now have written confirmation that the problem exists, as well as that they are unable to fix it at this point.

During the initial test drive at the dealer (their lead tech was driving), they also acknowledged that this could negatively effect the lifetime of the clutch as well as other components. I had a whitness in the truck with me (a co-worker) who then wrote up a statement of everything he had whitnessed and heard for me.

I was lucky that on that morning, the chatter was very bad! I think there were boogers being ejected from the service managers nose from the shake!
