I registered to post here, as my 2006 Tacoma (61K miles) has developed this problem over the past few weeks. It seems to be getting worse. I'm afraid to drive the thing too much. The dealership has offered to test drive the truck, but so far I have no answers. It is definitely a transmission or driveline issue, as the shudder happens when accelerating, not when coasting. I'll post what I find out.

got an 09 with 590 miles
the transmission drags coming out of overdrive
thats the most noticeable problem with it.
I can certainly make it happen just by taking my foot off the gas
goes from 45 to 35 in about 100 feet

gonna bring in in to the dealership thursday

i have an 09 that i just brought to the dealership
590 miles
when i coast down to 35 the downshift slows the truck to 25 in about 5 seconds, then it lets up
its a lease , so we will see how they handle it

I guess I'm pretty lucky compared to most here. I have 42,000 miles on an '07. I am the original owner and have never experienced the shudder described here.

are these transmission issues only with the automatics, or are they found in the manuals as well?

my '99 just got repurchased by toyota because of the frame issue and i was going to get a '10 but i'm not sure now after reading about these issues all over the internet?

i was looking at the 6-speed manual trans. so maybe i shouldnt have a problem but wanted to check...

thanks for the info...

Well, when your trying to drink your freeking starbucks, talk on the freeking phone, play with your darn blackberry and maybe look out the window once in a while, I guess you just don't have time to shift!! - not that I dislike people that do the above .Which means Toyota noticed this trend and just don't make many sticks anymore.
Wow, lots of assumptions about people who prefer auto transmissions there, but you missed a HUGE legitimate reason for preferring an auto. If I just used my Taco as a car I'd have a manual transmission too. But I frequently drag a very heavy boat up steep launch ramps and an automatic IMHO is much better for doing this without damaging anything. I learned to drive long ago on a 4 spd Land Rover that you had to double clutch into first gear and my car is a 6 speed standard so it's not like I don't know how to shift or use a clutch, but for some applications(other than drinking coffee or texting), an auto tranny is better.
