TacomaGeneral discussion forum for the 2005 and later Toyota Tacoma.
This is a discussion thread titled "06 fog light install", within the Tacoma forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Having some concerns about adding OEM fog lights to my 06 tacoma. Its only a week old and when I got her home and started reading I decided I wanted to do some mods. Fog lights seemed cheepest way to go and should be simple right?
Well I keep reading about ppl with 05 tundra's or Camery's that have wireing already there. I keep going back to my truck and looking around but I dont see any wire harness. I look in the fuse box and it does not look like the relay is wired from the back of the box. There is a white haness near the left side kickpanel but I am not sure if that would go to the switch.
My question is.... are the 06 tacoma pre-wired like other toyota's? Do I just need to buy the lights, swich and relay like everyone else has been saying? Has anyone else tried with the 06's?
Bought the subscription for the wiring diagrams, pouring over diagrams and write-up about other cars for what should be a simple addition. I just dont want to go hacking up my week old taco. Doesnt even have 500 miles on her yet....
Well I can see my explaination was not suffient to illecit a response. I am also a very driven person (no pun intended), so I went poking around the truck again to find the elusive wires.
I found these in my dash! Whooot I am 90% sure they are the fog light wires, but where do they go?
No coper connections in the Engine room fuse box so if I plugged a relay down there it would not be hooked up. I havent not pulled the fuse box yet to see what is underneth. Partly because I dont know that I would know what to do with them if I found them.
Has someone done this on the 06 tacoma yet? I see posts for other cars but none for mine yet. If my mod works I will be sure to post with pics so that others dont have this much trouble.
Thanks for your quick response, but I wonder if you are totally correct. I went poking around the truck again to find the elusive wires.

06 Tacoma (wiring fog lights... where do the wires go?)
Are the fog lights pre-wired and how far do they go?

I'll admit my info came from a tech at a Toyota dealership. He said I would need the "wiring harness" as he put it and it required that the steering wheel be removed to install it. I have read that 2 times since about the steering wheel removal. So that stopped me right there as far as going with the factory wiring. That link I showed provides everything you need (factory parts) but uses bulk wiring that you provide and they provide a wiring diagram of how to get it hooked up.
Hope I'm wrong and you're right though! Sure would be alot easier that way I'm sure.
I`m not sure how to add relays to the box so I just used conventional relays
My truck had a connector for downhill assist or a clutch cancel, I think I read somewhere the trucks are pre-harnessed and they just hook up the options that come with the specific model it becomes so you may be on to something.
pm tacosupreme or comattack they`re the wiring gurus

The fog light switch connector, should have a blue on pin3 and a white on pin4. (see attached for shape). Have you checked for a harness behind the cutouts in the bumper? If a harness is there the remainder of the wiring should be.

I have the 06 taco, and i also wondered about installing the fog lights? I looked under the front bumper where the lights mount, and i'm fairly certain the wireing harness i seen there was for the lights. It was right next to it. I never looked at the dash location for the switch.
I looked again and I have nothing near the bumper. What kind of tacoma do you have? Mine is just the base taco, aka. the mini taco. I am just going to wire up some after market fogs and skip worry about how to make them fit oem style. Going to use an OEM switch though so everything looks factory.

If you have a 4-cylinder then there's no fog light wiring.
Hi,
I just joined this forum 5 minutes ago so I don't know my way around yet. I have a 2007Tacoma 4 door, 4wd, 6 speed standard and I want to install a set of fog lamps. I see a pair of yellow-sheathed wiring harnesses which terminate near the fog lamp cut outs. Can I assume from this that it is prewired and the installation should be relatively easy? I'm looking at a set on E-Bay but am hesitant about ordering until I investigate a bit. Has anyone else successfully installed aftermarket fogs on an '07 ?
Thanks......

If it is yellow ribbed conduit STOP! That is for the airbag system. It's probably going to the sensors in the bumper and messing with them could set off your airbag. Sorry I don't know the answer to your question.
