I have a 2005 Tacoma DC Long Bed. After washing my truck last week, I noticed the front passenger mud flap was cracked (1/2 way from the top mounting area). The crack was a clean break, and I have not come across any rock debrits, live or dead animals on the road.
My truck is a 2x4 for street use only, and is NOT used off road, so I was shocked on the Toyota quality issue. I've owned only Toyota and Honda's, and the materials are usually high grade. My Tacoma was manufactured in the Bay Area (Fremont, CA - NUMMI plant).
I called the Toyota dealer where I purchased my truck, and they ordered me a new replacement mud flap under warranty. The warranty service manager advised me he has seen 2005/2006 Tacoma mudflaps crack, and Toyota is aware of the problem.
Just to be safe, check your mud flaps from time to time for this quality issue. I am satisfied with the outcome!

Reason: Misspelled Word
Mine have not split or cracked yet, but I will keep an eye on them.

The mudflaps do serve a purpose in somewhat keep road debri from hitting the underside and side of the doors. Some running boards can replace mupflaps in protecting the sides. I feel they are worth keeping unless you replace them with something that provides protection from road spray and debri.
Since you took yours off (tacosupreme) have you had any problems with the paint on the lower part of your doors? If not, have you done much off payment driving.

The last ones were replaced in June and I supposedly have the new and improved version. When I looked at them side by side, it appears they beefed up the material slightly right at the seam where they were cracking.
So far so good.
You won't see a TSB on them. They will only be replaced as necessary.

Nope, not a single rock chip, but I do have some pretty nasty gouges from tree limbs. I drive on gravel roads a lot (at least 50 miles a week, I work on a military training range), and the offset of the rims makes the tires stick out a little. I thought the chipping would be worse, but the factory chipgaurd seems to be doing its job. Again, mudflaps are useless.
They did not give you any hassle about the issue? Do you have documentation of this problem from toyota? I have the same problem but the dealer says it is normal wear and tear.

my dealer said they've never seen that and that doesnt look normal. BS... all that wind hitting the flap on the freeway... it's bound to snap off. after bitching about it they replaced it saying "they're not supposed to but did anyhow."

Call Toyota Customer Service and complain. Toyota didn't redesign it for the fun of it ... they know it's a problem.
This statement is against any logic. Your tires will catch small rocks, and they will fly off backwards. Mud flaps will stop them on their way.
You just did not like the looks of the flaps (I don't either), that's why you took them off. It's a choice, but it does not make them useless.
On friday I did a little mudding and got into some thick stuff and started to get high centered. I rammed some tree limbs under the tires for traction and found the flaps were a issue to deal with. They were flexing a lot but didnt break. Plus they were snagging on the ground.
Note to self, before going off road remove your trailer hitch, and be sure to have the hitch pin key in the truck... It makes for a aweful anchor while backing up.
