TacomaGeneral discussion forum for the 2005 and later Toyota Tacoma.
This is a discussion thread titled "'07 Taco-Add Body Side Moldings or No?", within the Tacoma forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
After putting Westin nerf bars on, they don't really protrude enough to provide much protection. I have a silver taco with chrome bars and bull bar. I'm thinking about the toyota body side moldings, which are about 3" wide, black rubberized. I can get them for about $70, and either install them myself or pay $90 for one hour labor.
Your opinion on their looks and the protection they add/don't add?
Can anyone show me a pick on a lighter colored taco (dealer only had a black taco with moldings installed at port)?
it might be better for protection, but i think it would look horrid with a black rubber going down the side of the door. Maybe if it was color matched. But Its up to you in the end!
As an alternative, check out 3M Paint Protection Film before you buy the side mouldings. X-Pel makes custom kits just for the Tacoma for the rocker panels. I had mine installed before I left the dealer, and couldn't be happier. It comes with a 5-year warranty and unless you are looking for it, you'd never know it's there.
In fact, most of the new Tacoma's I have seen even come with the front leading edge of the rear wheel mouldings already protected with the clear film. I also put a custom kit on my headlight lenses to protect from rock damage. Expensive, but highly recommended!

I purchased color keyed (Impulse Red). They are 2 1/2" wide. Attach with 3M adhesive backing. Takes about 10 minutes each side. They are not very thick and blend in so well that you do not notice unless you are specifically looking for them. There are two pieces for each side, main door and access door. It only takes on good door ding to make you wish you had not waited to purchase. I do not remember the site, but just typed body side molding for Tacoma in google and a couple of sites came up.

Do not have digital camera, as I am not a person who likes to take pictures. However, mine are as stated 2 1/2" wide, about 1/8-3/16" thick and they have a slight contour so they blend right in with the body. I installed lower part of door where the panel juts out the most. I lined my car up with it and upon opening door it provides adequate protection, at least against average car doors. I feel that it will give as good a protection as any type on the market. They are not cheap, but neither are door dings. That is not the site where I got mine, because I paid $149. The site you list is $199. I will check more on the site and let you know when I find it.
