Are Tacomas assembled in the US? Tundras are, I know.

GM assembles a lot of vehicles in Mexico and Canada, and buys parts overseas. It's all a global mish mash now. I wouldn't listen to the guys wanting you to "buy american".

If Toyota didn't hire any Americans they might have a point. But they do.

As we all know that some certain Japanese cars are built in the US, and some "American" cars are made in Mexico and else where... dont forget that when you buy a car you are in fact helping put money in the pockets of Americans (maybe some illegal immigrants..) that work at the dealerships, factories, shipping yards, at the bank, etc.

When someone questions my patriotism, I always ask them if they ever served our country. Usually the answer is no. Then I tell them I served for over 8 years, through Desert Storm, Shield, etc (89-97) and ask them again on their thoughts of my patriotism. So far it shuts them up pretty damn fast. Until someone serves our military, or maybe even law enforcement, the opinions and attitudes of others have no influence on my own thoughts on many related issues.

Worked 34 years for GM/Delphi, UAW member. When i retired in MAY, we were making parts for Toyota, lots of parts! I'm driving a 04 Tundra which i bought new. Amazing thing though, when GM spun off Delphi, you should have seen the transition of vehicles in parking lot! From GM to everything you can think of including Toyota almost overnight, Support your job, Buy what you build parts for whether its Toyota,GM,etc. Totally American!

Just the other day a lady at work commented on how she needs to have metric and standard tools to work on her car, which is a Matrix. I havent ran across having to use sae on the Tacoma, either I just havent gotten to the American made parts or Toyota was actually consistent with keeping it metric. Hopefully the later... sae stinks in my opinion.

My Vette even has all metric fasteners ... I think most US car manufactures went metric many year ago.

Could be worse; my old Triumph (mc) had SAE, metric, and.... whitworth!

I have found a 13/16" (6-point deep) spark plug socket works best on the lug nuts.

Had a 1989 Olds 88 not only required both SAE and metric. Some parts are actually in between.

All Tacomas have always been assembled in the USA (@ NUMMI in California).

I believe some of the last pre1995.5 'PreTacos' (as early as 1993?) were finally assembled at NUMMI as well ...

Ask you're father if you should buy an HHR made in Mexico by GM with only 35% us/Canada parts Thats a Mexican cheBy meng one way to look at it is you're helping to keep them on the other side, thats the only way it helps an American. Maybe the plant workers building the Tundra can afford to buy the HHR "thanks Toyota". tell them that.

The "big three" have no one to blame but themselves. It's not the price that's driving customers away. It's the quality.

What is "America"or "American"? It's a country made up of immigrants from all over the world.

He states that buying any foriegn car makes you un-American because your sending US dollars over seas to help support other countries. My Father made a sly comment about this too. He has always owned an American car including Corvettes.

Should I feel un-patriotic because I prefer quality and reliablity? I wasn't impressed with the Colorado. I owned a 1996 Chevy Blazer which I liked at the time, a 1997 Ford Probe GT (not sure that one counts) and a 1982 Pontiac 6000 sedan. My favorite cars have been the 1993 Acura Integra LS SE, 1990 Mazda RX7 GTU and of course my 1997 BMW M3.

Should I consider myself un-American because of the choice of cars I prefer?
Bull ****. Excuse me, but that's putting it lightly. Read the first reply to your post, and there's all you need. I would question your brother's security with himself , but that's not my business! Gosh, this is ruffing up some feathers, as this is stupid and immature. If it means your unamerican, than ALOT of people better sell their Corollas; a ton of people better dump their Camry, America's best selling passenger car for the past 8 or so years. It's funny considering that those who purchase a new Ford Fusion are sitting in a car made in Mexico; when Toyota is busy building more plants in North America. It's cute that Chevy, the "American Revolution", is building their Aveo in Bupyong, South Korea. And it's a stunner that, for a car to be considered domestic, it need only be MADE of at least 30% American-sourced parts.........SO, 30% of a soon-to-be car could be shipped out to quality-plagued Korea, built by a bunch of peasents, and shipped to America in a palm tree box, and called Domestic....or "American"...........
Now while the enstranged coot (me) is going on and on, how about more! Does anyone else here thing that maybe Chevy is counting more on patriotism for customers than vehicles? I mean, they stated during the introduction of the new Silverado that it's "pure American pickup".......their tagline is "An American Revolution".........In a magazine ad they once claimed that "more Americans drive Chevy than any other brand in America"......and so on...come on! That is alittle pathetic in my eyes; it seems they're desperate.......well hey good reason right? The "Imports" are beating American car makers at their own "game"...........Whatever..when people want a good story..

By the way, God bless you sir for serving America. My Father is retired Air Force, and my Grandfather on his side served in Vietnam. You're spot on there, good for you.
