Hehe, Yep, pretty basic screwup, just like the lack of locking gas caps! Well, I got both of these issues remedied at my local Advance Auto Parts. Plastic license plate frame looks good and doesn't cut into the plastic bumper as bad as a metal bracket will. Stant locking gas cap works great 5 years later. I've given up on looking to see if Toyota has one for my truck yet. Anyone know? I've also had to buy some helper springs to keep my truck rear suspension from bottoming out over basic bumps with 300 pounds in the bed...
One more payment and I drive it until the wheels fall off. I'll keep everyone posted if/when that happens. I did have the ball-joint recall done as well as new calipers even though my year wasn't supposed to have the "bad" ones, but it did!
Even with all the flaws I love, err, really like my truck still. I just didn't expect so many stupid little issues with a Toyota. It is my first Toyota, ever. I expected more from Toyota than I did from Nissan, and I still have my little Hardbody and love it too. The only issue I had with it was rust around the "third" brake light housing, and by the time I discovered the problem it had been out of the 5 year paint warranty 8 months. I called Nissan and they acted like they were willing to take care of it but after a year of running me around from dealer to paint shop to dealer they just declined to do anything. So, yep, sour experience but mechanically have had ZERO issues and this little hardbody doesn't bottom out with 1000 pounds in the bed over the very same bumps as the Tundra does with 300!
I just hope I don't have cracked manifolds or a bad tranny before the decade is over...
Anyhoo, hope all of you have better luck than I have.

It's enforced because without a front plate, you cannot be ticketed by the MANY automatic traffic enforcement devices here in Denver.
Consequently, if you don't have the front plate, especially if you're from out of state, they pull you over for the slightest thing just to harass you, assuming that if you don't have a front plate you MUST be doing something else illegal. My girfriend has been pulled over SIX TIMES in nine months, that includes two or three times in one week...only two were "legit" offenses (hauling arse, running a stop sign), the others were things like "failure to signal a lane change" merging off the highway. She eventually got fed up and called the City and complained, the latest ticket was dropped as the City agreed it was harassment.
Denver is just downright idiotic about traffic enforcement, enough to make a guy want to rob a bank...the cops are all out writing tickets!
You're only safe in Pennsylvania. No front plate is issued there.
I got pulled over in Mesquite Texas for no front plate but got away with a chewing out. There was no other reason to stop me but I was young and the police here always want to see what young people are up to. I think I do have a solution for those not wanting to mount the plates on the front. Donate to the police fund when called, get a "I support..." sticker and attach it to your windshield. When you do get pulled over they will probably let you go and thank you for your support.

Gotta tell ya...I had a 2004 Scion xB Release Series 1.0 (HOT LAVA) and left the front virgin. Had a DPS officer run me down for the single minded purpose to tell me (and give a warning ticket) I needed a front license plate. Now I never did add it and I've passed many a DPS officer since...and no problem but that one 'had a thing'.

Well guys I did a search and this is what I have been able to come up with.
Sorry if this has already been discovered.
If you go to the following website you will see: Toyota Tundra Truck Accessories
At the bottom of the page there is a part that reads
"These accessories are also available:
- Front License Plate Bracket
- Truck Cover USA American Roll Cover"
Hope this helps
Here is an update: I found this on another post by wileetundra.
Factory option code is 7J, part number is PT413-34070, and dealer cost is $8.50. You drill 1/8" holes through each dimple then mount the plate into the bracket and attach with the supplied screws.

Back in Oct. 2002 when I bought my truck, the bracket I was shown was a steel bracket, and even the parts guy frowned about putting it on a painted bumper of the '03's (which was the first year to have the cover). Does anyone know what this particular bracket is made of?

I got a confirmation on what I was told long ago by a County Deputy when DPS was nice enough to give me a warning for going a bit fast.
He said that although it is a state law to have a front plate they won't usually pull you over JUST for that, although they can if they are in the mood. Typically he'll write a citation for someone that has other issues, like illegal lights, noise nuisances and tack on the "no front plate" to the laundry list.
So...you might just be able to drive for months/years and never get in trouble for not having that front plate. The way I see it is with a plate they have one less reason to harass me and I like it that way.
I'd like to know who holds the record for driving the most without a front plate? I managed about a year or so.

I once was cited for not having a front plate, although I did, It was attached to the rear view mirror with plastic "zip" ties. very secure and visible.
I was pulled over for speeding ( the officer was in an unmarked car and acted like he wanted to race so I did and he pulled me over) anyways, I got the speeding ticket and IDLP ( impropery displayed license plate) or something like that. I took it to the judge and said I fixed it and the charge was dropped.
since then, the plate has allways been bolted to the front bumper.

My thought about this:
Good way to get you head cut off when you have a wreck by a license plate flying around in the cab.
Most local police won't bother you but the DPS State Troupers will stop you every time out on the open highway and give you a warning after checking you out and checking your liability insurance. This waste your time so why not put a plate on the front also, you get 2 when you register it.
Hey, I know where your coming from...I told the dealer that I would simply take my chances.
Although I disclaim this as "legal advice" (I am a licensed member of the Texas State Bar) the cop that writes you a ticket for no front licemse plate is probably stopping you for something else. The legally recognized exception to this gross generalization is, of course, any authorized official in the Williamson County area or one of our smaller Podunk municipalities where Bubba is on a quota system at the end of the month.
Nonetheless, the local dealer has some attractive license frames that I'm considering but they can't be any "purdier" than a nice clean white front bumper.
See if you can post some pictures. It seems we're driving a very similar truck. I debadged mine so the exterior is cleaned up--check out "my photos." Interests are very similar too (SCUBA &'wheelin, etc)
Need to talk PM me I'n near your area and need some service.
its not that big of a deal. take the chance, and most of the time its just a fix it ticket where u can get it dismissed if u actually put it on. so, take the chance if u want then put it on if u have to.
im a cop and live in texas and dont have one on the benz or the tundra....didnt have one on my corvette. my wife got a ticket from one of my co workers (!@^#@@%!) in her benz for it and i just paid the 105 bucks since i did it i felt it was fair to just take the fine. but i dont write that ticket either so i feel its an even trade. i dont do it why would i expect you to? its not a big deal to me, not sure why its a big deal anyway. the state could save money if they would just print out one anyway.

that one always amuses me. like the people who lay it on the dash. the law actually says it must be displayed at the front and at the rear...not towards the front or towards the rear. so, the windshield and or dash area isnt the front, its middle facing towards the front. the front is the front. the back is the back.
but then again, most tow trucks mount theirs to a back of a headache rack at the middle of the truck facing rear and dont get in trouble...
