Ok, I know it's required to display a fron license plate on your vehicle, but I haven't had one on my Acura for going on 8 years and no one's complained. How many Texas folks use the front license plate?
Well as you can see I'm not from Texas but it's also required here in Ohio, and I know quit a few people that have gotten tickets for not displaying it. Most of them take it off to put some sort of vanity plate on. Your best bet is to check with your local Police Dept.
I drove my buddies car without, and got pulled over with a warning. I have always had 2 myself. No sense in giving the policeman the oppurtunity to pull you over.

I've never had any problems w/ no fr. plate (after >15 years of driving w/o one) until I was busted speeding around November last year. A DPS trooper busted 2 friends and me, all driving S2000's, on the way home from a 500+ mile Hill Country thrash. We were caught in Stonewall, just outside Fredericksburg, and the trooper said they'd been looking for us ever since Rockspring (we were making pretty good time driving through the middle of nowhere). The cop only got us for 88 in a 65, and he told us we were lucky b/c he knew we'd been driving MUCH faster earlier in the day. Guess he just tacked on the no front plate ticket to give us the punishment he thought we deserved. (DPS certainly doesn't win any "friendly officer" awards from me) After that, I installed the front plate on my Tundra just to be safe.
No way I'll put a plate on my S2000, it really hurts the car's lines.
Regardless, my experience has been that this law is not well enforced, but provides an excuse to stop, ticket, and harass you w/o good reason.
Now there's one of those laws that to me makes little to no sense at all. We have that same goofy law here in Calleeeforniiiaaaa. In fact, my wife just found out the hard way a few months ago when she decided her PT cruiser would look better w/o the front plate (they do). Too bad the officer who noticed it pulled her over and wrote her up for that.
Personally, I think the police have more important thangs to keep an eye open for than whether or not you have a front plate on your vehicle.
P.S. I ain't looking for no rebutts to my opinion on this, so don't bother, you'll be wasting 100% of your time trying to convince me otherwise.....
My dealer (Classic) wants to drill holes in my beautiful bumper to mount the front license plate.
I said, no way. There HAS to be another way. I can see at least 2 options and frankly, I am very surprised, and even disappointed that my dealer (or Toyota) doesn't have a good method to mount the plate. There has to be a factory bracket...come on Toyota.
Is there a bracket either OEM or aftermarket that will do the job without needing to drill holes?
I don't want a ticket but there will be no holes unless it's absolutely the only way.
Any ideas?

Hey, I know where your coming from...I told the dealer that I would simply take my chances.
Although I disclaim this as "legal advice" (I am a licensed member of the Texas State Bar) the cop that writes you a ticket for no front licemse plate is probably stopping you for something else. The legally recognized exception to this gross generalization is, of course, any authorized official in the Williamson County area or one of our smaller Podunk municipalities where Bubba is on a quota system at the end of the month.
Nonetheless, the local dealer has some attractive license frames that I'm considering but they can't be any "purdier" than a nice clean white front bumper.
See if you can post some pictures. It seems we're driving a very similar truck. I debadged mine so the exterior is cleaned up--check out "my photos." Interests are very similar too (SCUBA &'wheelin, etc)
Well it appears that there are two little dimples in the front bumper cover where you're supposed to use a sheet metal screw to hold on the license plate.
Talk about mickey mouse. Oh well. I just figured that when your spending $30000+ on a vehicle, you'd at least get a nice little molded bracket...
pffft.
I would expect this on lower-end models or even on a Ford, but not on an expensive toy. I guess the word "expensive" is relative these days. I work for a living and I know all new cars are too much for their worth, IMO. But what do you do when you want a virgin vehicle? Bite the bullet.
Laters.

REMOVED: Formfit hood deflector. Loved the look but a clip went missing. Can't find one for sale without the $45 hardware kit!
Mods: 12V outlet relay "fix" to have power when ignition switch is off.
Gripes: Weak leaf springs that Toyota doesn't want to warranty, paper-thin paint, interference design motor, crappy rear mud guards that cost $78 each (local dealer wanted $100) and only last 25k miles. Front mudguards built differently! (better)
