After defecting to WA, one thing I really miss about TX is the good old Texas BBQ. My all time favorite is Spring Creek BBQ. I'm drooling just thinking about it.
That question has probably started more fights than any other around here.
I personally like Louie Mueller (sp?) in Taylor and The Iron Works in Austin.
My favorite convenient place is Rudy's. They bill themselves as the world's worst bbq and they are part gas station & part bbq place (there are several between Austin & San Antonio). Their help wanted signs are pretty funny too. They all feature people covering their faces as if they're ashamed to work there.
I don't know what I would do if I couldn't get good bbq and tex-mex on a regular basis.
Originally posted by Possum I can honestly say I have been to many "Mom & Pop" off the road places in various parts of Texas that had some of the best tastin' BBQ.
That's a pretty hard question to pinpoint, 'cuz we have so many. Yep, Texans love BBQ.

Dan, any good "mom & Pop" BBQ in Houston?
I used to live in SA and DFW area. Now whenever I visit TX, I usually fly into Houston because most of my close friends are in Houston area.
What a coincedance, I JUST got home from eating out. Where, my favorite (well one of them) BBQ place, Rudy's BBQ.
Im with "Speed", just dont know what I would do if I couldnt have my Tex-Mex and BBQ food. Would just have a TOTAL meltdown I think. The withdrawl would be unbearable for sure.

Hi davecsu!
Ya know, we have found so many people locally that setup their pits like in parking lots, beer joints, etc. that just down right can BBQ. I think it is because they also tend to make their own sauce.
Next time ya fly in, if on a weekend give it a try. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
Dan
BTW...we had BBQ today too. Gotta have my fix!

Just got back from the store and picked up the May edition of Texas Monthly.
Why's this important?
They have 18 pages dedicated to BBQ!
They ranked the top 50 and included a list of honorable mentions by city.
The three Houston places mentioned in the top 50 were: The Goode Company BBQ, Thelma’s BBQ, and Williams Smokehouse.
Not sure about the last two, but you can find The Goode Co. in several places throughout Houston.
Davecsu, if you don't think you'll make it to Houston anytime soon just PM me and I'll mail you a copy of the magazine for your coffee table. It’ll be fun to explain to your guests why Texans would dedicate 8 full color pages to BBQ, BBQ sauces, pinto beans, and yes, even the ever-present handful of white bread.
MAIN STREET BBQ IN EULESS TEXAS it will beat anything around. pres. bush sr. was always having his sercert service men (and women) to go over there and pick some up. i always heard so much about it and finally tried it. i heard that it was a hole in the wall that they finally got a credit card machine about 2 years ago. it used to be cash only. but it is really good. but this is just my 2 cents

I kind of like "Luthers". I know its chain but the ribs (short side) and onion rings are very good, have never got a bad plate. -----------------------------As I type-- Mrs B just brought me a taste of Brisket shes got on the grill. PRETTY GOOD STUFF. She makes a mean sauce too. ----YES DEAR YOURS IS THE BEST. Luthers is #2 ---Buzzard
