Default Brake Pads

Well it has happened. The squelers are singing coming to a stop and I have less than 30k. I wondered how this heavy beast would treat brake pads on the front. How many of you guys have had to replace your pads so far? I am looking at the TRD pads as replacements. (I posted a thread in general discussion area to see who has bought them so far).

Well i'm at 27,900 and haven't heard anything yet. Maybe this weekend when I rotate the tires I'll take a peak and see how much of the pads are left.

BTW the front TRD pads are $76 at Carson right now. See the link to Carson under the TRD forum.

Just rotated all the tires this pass Saturday, from what I had seen all looked okay.

Snoopy, there is a thread located in the Main, about a brake fix that will be issued in September.

From what I understand, this fix will apply regardless if in warranty or not.

Check it out anyways and also the TSB in the Service Forum.

Hope this helps,
Dan

Sounds like from this the best course of action may be to wait for that service bulletin and get a free brake job??? I need to read that bulletin to see what the qualifiers are for the TSB. I have no real issue other than what appears to be standard brake pad wear. ( I say standard. This truck had 6k dealer miles before I got it. No telling how hard it was driven given I know the guys that would have had the truck)

Post Read these threads

Snoopy,

Found thess threads, they may help:

For those with brake problems....
and
03 tundra gets new brakes design

It's worth a try to contact Toyota and file a compliant with the corporate office and get an incident number so you can be sure you'll get the fix.

Hope this helps,
Dan

I thought that would be the topic. That issue has been around as long as I have on this forum and most likely longer. It was around at least before the big crash of TS.

I don't get vibrations or "tell-tale indications of rotor warp" even with the emergency stops on I45 and setting my parking brake on 95% of all instances of parking my truck. I would say that I will be replacing pads on my own dime. What a bummer.

Read some of the posting made by TUNDRAV8GEORGIA. He has had many brake jobs. This would also include the pads wearing the way they are.

I'll read further. I got bored quick with the same old problem and gave up in the first page.

I just replaced front pads @ 33k. I feel OK with that kind of mileage, as my old Ford Econ. only got about 20....

Default TRD pads?

OK this may be a dumb question but does the TRD vehicle come w/ TRD brake pads? What is special about these pads?

I'm thinking of replacing my standard Tundra pads with Raybestos Ceramic pads ($65 per set which takes care of both wheels) and replacing the rotors which are $69 each from Raybestos. Anyone have any experiance with these pads or rotors?

Does anyone know how thick a NEW brake pad is (In inchs)? Some of the guys will say "There 1/2 gone, there 1/4 gone" What thickness should we base that on other than just estimate? ---Buzz

Thumbs up TEJAS TOYOTA

Floyd (iforce=horses) would be able to answer that question on the wear of brake pads.

Also Texas Tundras Club Members, please remember our sponsoring dealership, Tejas Toyota still offers a 20% discount on parts and accesories to us.
