Hey my fellow TEXANS ! I'm preparing to buy an '03 Tundra Stepside...Seriously considered just going thru Dianne, but seems I should be able to get a close price here in Tx...Albeit, I dont too much care for the Gulf States dealers... Purchased an '02 Sequoia last year from Texas Toyota (Grapevine)...probably the most unethical dealership I have ever stepped in...still kick myself for completing the deal there....
Back to my ??? Any suggestions of a dealer (salesperson) that I can walk in, pay ~~$500~~ over invoice, either in stock or order and be done with it. I live in the ft. Worth area, so anywhere within a few hundred miles would be fine... Heck, I'd just as soon do it over the phone and go pick it up....or am I dreaming.
Thanks & let me know...I better get it before my wife decides we need to spend the $ on something else..
You could try this, type in Toyota Delerships in Texas and send them an email as to what you are wanting on your '03 Stepside Tundra and have them quote you a price.
As far as walking in a dealership anywhere paying just $500 over invoice cost may be somewhat difficult, as the '03 Stepside Tundras have just hit most lots and are one of the newest additions to the Toyota family.
I realize your in N.Texas, but if you don't find anything in your neck of the woods or reasonably close, here's my input:
I bought my Tundra last July from Cavender Toyota Online here in San Antonio . Here's how it worked....I emailed an online rep and told him EXACTLY what I wanted and EMPHASIZED I DID NOT WANT GULF STATES EXTRA MILE PKG. To my shock and dismay, he replied with an email, which included a printout of exactly what I wanted and it was priced about $100 over invoice. I did exhaustive price research for 6 months prior to buying, so I know they gave me a great deal. He went to Gulf States Inventory and marked an incoming unit as "sold" so that Gulf States would only add what I specified.
The truck arrived in one week. They didn't ask for a deposit, didn't ask about financing (I had that pre-arranged), didn't ask about extended warranty.....ZERO pressure and NO BS!!
On delivery day, I showed up and presented bank draft and took delivery. This was the best new vehicle purchase experience of my life. The guy even gave me the tint for free and grabbed a set of 4 Toyota mats out of the trucks on the lot and threw them in too.
If interested, PM me and I'll provide you with contact person.
Purchased one Friday (9-20-02) at Durant in Weatherford (actually where I live).
Kinda long story. 1st went to Durant and the salesman was not interested in locating one, but said he would, never heard from him again. EZ2BME hooked me up with Cavendar in San Antonio. This guy advised he had one coming in exactly as I wanted except interior color, so I figured I would settle for it.
Alas, my wife runs into an old high school friend (Mgr @ Durant). They catch up on old times and learns he works at Durant. The next morning he calls saying he found the truck EXACTLY as I wanted and had already dealer traded for it and let us have it over night to see if we like it. WE DID. Bought it for about $50 over invoice.

Congratulations on your new Tundra. Glad to hear you were able to find one in your area. Funny how these things happen sometimes. In your case, it was your wife talking to an old friend who happened to work at the dealership. With me....I had already given up on local dealers and was going to drive to NM to buy, until I made one last ditch effort via email to Cavender.
Anyway.......ENJOY!!
I just purchased an ’03 Stepside Ltd. from Champion Toyota in Austin. The salesman (Jim) was straightforward in his dealings with me and cut a fair price over the phone. Combined with the $1,500 rebate, I feel like a got a really good price on the truck. I also had to order the truck and it came in about 1 week ahead of the promised date. All in all, a good experience at Champion. I’m also totally satisfied with the Tundra, a great truck (but I didn’t need to tell you that).
This experience is in contrast to the one I had at San Marcos Toyota where I initially went to purchase the truck. It started out OK, but turned sour when the sales manager -- I won’t mention the guy’s name -- took over the negotiation. I’ll skip the boring details but it’s fair to say that he blatantly lied to me many times, was out and out rude to my wife (called our house and was a jerk), and became incredibly arrogant when I continued to negotiate over the dealer’s added costs (keep in mind that their price was quite a bit higher than the initial one quoted by Champion).
This may be an isolated incident, but I could never recommend San Marcos Toyota based on my experiences there.
