Smile 30K Service - Report 1 (San Antonio)

As a courtesy to the San Antonio area Tundra owners I知 giving a status report of my 30K Service performed at Alamo Toyota in San Antonio. Thanks to the local Tundra owners that recommended Alamo to me! Right now I知 at 33K, just 3K before the warranty expires. I did not opt for the extended warranty because it is not a POS Ford or Chrysler product.

Overall, VERY well satisfied!!! Albert, one of the service managers, was very courteous and helpful. I came prepared with copies of the TSBs just in case and he did need to copy two of them, the loose antenna and hole in the driver痴 side seat ones. He was very well aware of the brake issues and told me that quite a few are on parts back-order, as mine would be. The service report stated that the front rotors were warped and covered under warranty. Albert also stated that they are putting bigger calipers on the front which dramatically help in braking.

Over all it cost me right at $200. Services completed were coolant flush and refill, 4WD Diff Service which included replacing the fluids in the transfer case and differentials, and a transmission flush. I decided to swap out the old tranny fluid with Mobil One Synthetic. VERY expensive fluids, I stopped at Advance Auto on the way and picked up three cases (18 quarts) for $96.88. Albert just recommended the normal drop the pan and replace 3-4 quart change, but I wanted to see if there would be any difference with the synthetic fluid. Overall it cost me an extra $140, so I値l have to wait and see if it was worth it. I change my own oil with Mobil One synthetic and I can also replace the plugs. He also recommended an injector cleaning, but I routinely use injector cleaners, so I declined it at this time.

They also replaced one of the O2 sensors that went bad all at no cost under warranty!!! Luckily, they did not even mention the K&N Gen II FIPK and the Flowmaster (50 series) muffler that I had installed.

Parts are on order for the front brakes, driver side power seat and antenna.
I値l give that report as part 2.

Overall, I HIGHLY recommend Alamo Toyota for any service you may need done, and I am VERY picky!

Thanks for the report. I am gonna take mine in Monday for the brakes before I hit 36k. Hope my trip goes as well as yours. Did they tell you how long to get the brake parts in by chance?

No report on how long it would take for the parts, just that quite a few are on back order. I was pleasantly surprised to hear that they are putting on bigger calipers for improved performance. I did drop it off at 8:30am and it was done by 5pm and we ended up picking it up around 9pm, 3 hours before they close.

Thumbs up Alamo & Tejas Service Departments

Thanks for posting that info TX_Hunter, as my daughter (HOTundra) has vibes from her brakes at about 30mph and only has 11,000 miles on her 2002 Tundra, I know she'll have to get that TBS much sooner than expected done as well.

I have to put a plug in here to Tejas Toyota Service Department (Alamo's little brother dealership in Humble TX) that I go to for any warranty work on my Tundra. I too have to grade their service department with high recommendations for any Houston Area owners of Tundras. They too work in the same manner that Alamo Toyota has responded to your warranty issues.

SATundra, Congrats on both brakes being done. Whenever my front brake replacements come in I'll have them check the rear. I do know as long as you brought the defect to their attention before the warranty expires it will be covered, even if you go over 36K before the work is completed.

Initial observance of the transmission fluid being flushed and replaced with Mobil One synthetic is nothing less than REMARKABLE!!! The transition between gears is MUCH smoother and the overall acceleration is much smoother and I always accelerate at full force just below spinning the tires. If I give it full throttle I will spin the oversized BFG AT kos every time.

I will definitely give a report on the brake and antenna replacement along with the power seat fix as soon as they are complete. I plan on replacing the plugs soon and I am gathering info on this subject now. So far the overall sentiment is that the platinum and iridium plugs are not worth it, but I always prefer the best if possible, so I will probably go with the Bosh Platinum.

TX glad you liked the switch to the synthetic tranny fluid. Make sure to let me/us know when you get it back, when the parts come in.

They told me mine should be in next Wednesday but they would call me when ready. I am gonna try to get a parts list of exactly what they replaced.

No word on how long it would take, only the same "on back order" response. Must be a lot of brakes getting fixed out there!!
I'll let ya know when the parts come in and how the service went. So far I'm very satisfied, it's not the service department's fault that there are so many on back order.
