My 2001 Tundra needs new tires. I have the BFgoodrich Rugged Trail TA's on them now I believe. They are pretty worn down at 34,000 miles, and I have had them since new. I am looking to buy new tires here very soon. I live in Minnesota, and the winters here get pretty hectic. I do not do that much offroading. The one thing that bugs me is that if it is raining my truck will break the tires loose from a stand still, this is bad when trying to merge into traffic, or making a right on a red light with traffic coming at you. So what I am looking for is the stock OEM sized tires, I want something that gives me good traction in the snow, and on wet roads without being a mudder or really aggressive tire. I checked on the tire rack but trust people's opinions on here than there. Is what I am asking a contradicting question, can you have good wet and snow traction without having aggressive tread? Actually I do not mind aggressive tread as long as it does not cause a lot of road noise. I like peace and quiet, if I want loud I jump in my mustang with straight pipes. Let me know what you guys have so I can get some new tires. Thanks Nick
I've heard good things about the Nitto Terra Grapplers. My BFG's get no traction in the rain and I plan to get the Nitto's after Christmas. From what I've heard, the Nitto's do great in the rain.

Why? Others have given good reports.
Nick,
Here's an interesting tire for you to look into, especially for your winter use http://www.nokiantires.com/indexen.html Look at the Nokian WR, an all-weather 4-season tire that's also a certified snow tire.
Otherwise, Michelin LTX M/S is a fine choice. Better on snow than most all-season tires.
Because I don't like the ones I have. Went thru 3 sets (2 of M410's and these ATs) and they still don't ride good. Just my opinion like everybody else. I gave Toyo a try and won't be back.

You might try a look at the Bridgestone Revos (I know, it's going to be a while). I was looking at the Toyo's and almost went with them. Someone I talked to bought them and they were 100% happy. Everyone has their own views.
But I think the Revos are a better tire. Amazingly quiet and well mannered - especially for an AT tire. It's a "road" version of their AT tire so it's got better road performance. I think it's just what the doctor ordered. Has great wet traction which even the BFG All Terrain does not.
Plus great traction wet OR dry. Even Michelin is great wet due to the siping, but dry isn't so hot due to the hard rubber (which makes them last a LONG time). But then again, you don't need great traction when it's dry - traction usually isn't an issue. Not like on snow or wet pavement.
I'd probably go with the Nokian WR if they had them readily available around me. Just too hard to replace a tire next day if I blew one. It's much better in the winter than the LTX m&s (which is pretty darn good!). But they are probably around in your area.
Big O has a new touring sport tire out that is a pretty good "road" AT tire (from what they say - don't know why they picked that name though). Even has full depth siping. That's something usually only Michelin does.
It's supposed to be comparable to the michelin LTX m&s but quieter with more aggressive tread. Of course, it won't last as long as the Michelin though.
I just got the Nitto Terra Grappler's and they are the best tires I've
ever had period. The smallest size they have(for now) is the 265/75/16.
I have very minimal rubbing on the mud flaps at full turn during parking,
but other than that no problems. I plan on putting on a leveling kit to
deal with the rubbing issue. http://www.nittotire.com/mainframe.asp
I put Michelin LTX M/S in 265/70R16 on both my Tundra and Sequoia. The Tundra now has 25,xxx miles on them and the Sequoia about 500. I live in the mountains of New Mexico where it's cold and snowy. They are GREAT in the rain, very good in the dry and the snow, and they are VERY quiet and long-wearing. I highly recommend them.
I'm EXTREMELY partial to Michelin. After seeing literally thousands of tires on wheel balancers and aligners, Michelin is the ONLY brand I'll buy. They are the only brand of tires that are round, and I mean round as if turned on a lathe.
I have had the LTX's on severall different trucks, and they always seem to amaze me at how well they do in all conditions. These tires are quiet on dry roads, have amazing grip on snow and ice, and seem to last forever. Just great tires. Wes
I put a set of the Michelin LTX M/S LT265/75/16 on my truck about 3,500 miles ago after the Dunlops crapped out at 30k and they are great tires. Quiet, excellent traction wet or dry.

If you want peace and quite, smooth ride and even wear,go with the LTX'S. I put them on my 4Runner about 28k ago, rotated them twice already,no problems and even wear.
Throw those factory Dunlops away !!!!! Put new Michelins, I like my X Radial on mine 265-70-16 . great gas mileage, almost no noise, long tread wear, i put about 45K miles on them already and i have about 60% left on them. Handles great in hot (over 100 degree weather) running for hours til the gas runs low. great in wet & snow conditions, although I did slip alittle on some ice, but it's a great overall tire. They sell them at Costco. Worth every penny. never had any problems with them, Never had any nails go in them. With them factory Dunlops, I've had more than 5 nails go in them. Funny how that works.
