New tires to correct vibration problem?
Here is some background on my situation. I have a 2005 Tundra Doublecab with Donahoe coilovers set at about 2". Shortly after installing the coilovers I found a used tire and wheel set for a good price. They are 16x8 Mickey Thompson Classic II wheels and 285/75/16 BFG all terrains. Prior to installing the wheels and tires I did not notice any wobble or vibration in the steering wheel. However, some time after installing the wheels and tires, I started noticing a slight wobble in the steering wheel between 50-60 mph. However, it typically goes away at higher speeds. I had the wheels balanced several times with no luck. I then tried to have the alignment set to DJ's specs and still no luck correcting the wobble. Now I also have a slight pull to the right at higher speeds even though it has been re-aligned twice and they claim it is spot on. They thought that perhaps the pull was related to the tires. Now I am thinking about replacing the tires for several reasons. First, I was hoping the new tires might reduce or eliminate the wobble and the pull to the right. Second, I want a less agressive tire because I will be commuting farther very soon. I am looking at the Yokohama Geolandar AT/S because they are reasonsably priced and get excellent reviews. Is the wobble I am experiencing more likely due to the wheels or the tires? Am I being unreasonable to expect that getting new tires might help cure my problem?
